does life mean anything

if you think about life, does it mean anything. in my opinion no because we live only to die in the end and there is nothing we can do about it. so i think the meaning of life is nothin
trying is the first step towards failure

Life means whatever you want it to mean. By itself it might not have a meaning but you can give a meaning to it by the experiences and knowledge you gain while going trough it. So my advice is to learn all you can, and try to experience all you can; and if you cant find a meaning to it after all that, well you atleast had fun. "Ignorant"* people truly live in bliss. I'd love to be religious then i woulnd't give a shit to the meaning of life, all bad things would be because of the devil and all the good things because of god. *All persons are ignorant, i mean people who is ignorant because they don't search or want knowledge. |

"meaning" is a term too often used without first being properly defined. for us humans, the search for truth is a noteworthy meaning in life. as replicators (life-forms), our meaning in life is to, you guessed it, replicate! in terms of the carbon and oxygen we are made of, we have little significance at all. just masses of star dust on a big rock spiraling around a rather meager star in a rather rural neighborhood of one of billions of galaxies. the mind is what gives meaning to things; objects, ideas, thoughts, emotions. in your own mind, you things have meaning as they do to you alone. therefore, when people talk about 'the meaning of life' they are referring to 'the meaning of life in my mind'. this is self-centered and so i refuse to do it. me, im fine with being star dust. |

My Theory Life was created. Therefore, there must be some force in the Universe powerful enough to override so-called "meaninglessness". Life is what was supposed to happen. Now, we get into the definition of "Life"... |
Re: does life mean anything

At first, I think the same with baka, "Life doesn't mean anything!!!" but I give it a deeper thought. Now I agree with scout, there's a power great enough to kick out those "meaninglessness". People find different powers so they have their own meanings of life. Mine is the bishoujos! I can't live without'em! lol |

of course life is meaningful. Because of life you can enjoy breathing and living how hard it is. But that is life without bad you can't be good without sadness you can't feel happy. Each step you take is the meaning to life, to make you more step forward to your goal. Daeth is not an end but it is a beginning to start over again on the top. so don't ever you waste your life with thing such drugs and crime. Be spirited to life!!!

What is death? What is life? What is it to be meaningful? to be meaningless? Some people compare their lives with inventions that after discovering what they'll end up to lose the hope to live. But what does it mean to live? To find a universal answer to that is difficult, but for me, to live means to go beyond one's concept of our impending death. All of us will die physically but the worst kind of death is to live and be dead at the same time. |
Re: does life mean anything
|
Life is a period in time when you exist. So long as people remember you and you are not forgotten, you are still alive. In their heads, but still alive. Sure it's meaningful. If it's so meaningless, then why ARE we alive? We must be alive for a reason. Haha, this is more like philosophy than physics XD |
Re: does life mean anything

I have also thought of this question for a long time, and this is what I've come to so far. "Do you die to live, or do you live to die?" I, in most cases, live to die. There are achievments in life in which we are supposed to accomplish, but there are also many mysteries which we dont know of. What is the use of accomplishing a goal when it would be all for naught when you die? I am not saying to give up on life, in fact, live life to the fullest. Life may be short, and death is inevitable, but try to gain as much as you can before you lose it all. Just a word of advice. =) |

I really can't belive questions like this is in a physics section. .(^o^)/ Anyways, I believe life for a man these days are worthless. Because when God created man, it's purpose was to take care of Gods creation. And also ,IMHO, I don't believe that what you learn and gain is what gives meaning to life. I believe it's what you teach or pass to the future generation that give meaning to life. The world may not remember you after you have died. Those that you have came to contact with may not remember you. But they will always remember what you have thought or gave to them. |

Life is meaningful, enjoy it while we can. Sometimes, it doesn't mean a thing when things are getting out of control (or are we just too bored?). But we have to look at the definition of life with a different point of view. The truth is, the world is so cruel that it gives us "meaninglessness". We are forced to believe in the "meaninglessness" because our situation is getting worse and worse. Me, I don't wanna surrender to those kind of situations. I have to show to everyone that I can surpass this cruel world with my own way so they can believe in themself and not to be dictated by the rules of the world.

SHort and Simple...Whether There is A Meaning to Life Is Entirely up to The Individual. If a Person wants to do something great and succeed then they have a calling. But If they want to just sit on the couch and waste away their lives they have no Purpose. That's why (For Those Who Believe) GOD Does no Force Us into Following Him, Her, It Whatever. |

This has nothing to do with physics as well..maybe we should have a broader forum (science forum) instead of physics only... |
Re: does life mean anything

"Physics Ask physics questions or ponder the universe" I think you could call this topic 'pondering the universe' ^^ Anyway I doubt there really is a meaning for life. Even if you had one, it wouldn't be the same as someone elses. But telling yourself or others," I'm not gonna do *this or that*, cause life is pointless" is just gonna get you beat up, so it's simply better to not think on it too deeply and just enjoy life while you can XD |

I believe the purpose of life was to reproduce to ensure the continuation of the human species. Why else do we have reproductive organs? |
Re: does life mean anything

life has no meaning. But consciousness makes one. still i doubt the existence of consciousness, as i believe that consciousness is only a system created in the brain.

after i read gendou-sama's post, i think i agree with him. after all, my post below can be considered "similar" with gendou-sama's post. assume that the term "consciousness" i used is the same as the term "mind" gendou-sama used.
