its more like raikiri is a complete or perfected virsion of chidori

wait, is raikiri another name for rasengan? cuz if it is, rasengan is differnt from chidori, yet its still alot better than it. That's why only the fourth and ero-sennin knew how to use it

Raikiri is just a complete, more prefected version of Chidori (as Tidus_Yuna san mentioned) and is only called so when Kakashi uses it.

smurfyy san>>
Raikiri/Chidori and Ransengan are different attacks. Raikiri/Chidori was created/made up by Kakashi and Rasengan was created by the 4th Hokage himself.
In fact, only the 4th Hokage and Jiraiya knew how to use it because it is a generally harder 'jyutsu' to master as it needs 3 levels to be completed and a long time.

There is no difference between Raikiri and Chidori, they are just names for the same technique... and Raikiri isnt a perfected version of Chidori

Actually, if you have a read of the first character book of Naruto, it actually mentions it is...

Hey if Rasengan is a harder jutsu which means "art" or "technique" why did it take naruto like less than a few weeks to master it? while it took the 4th long time till hes grandpa age?

Yeah, thats exaclty what a lot of Naruto fans want to know...its a mystery...
Its only difficult due to the number of levels needed to master it.
Raikiri/Chidori can only be mastered by certain types of people, as Kakashi metioned.
Also, you need something like Sharingan to be able to use it safely. Chidori/Raikiri uses a max speed to usewhich means the peoson is going too fast and cannot stop or suddenly change direction if the opponent tries to attack the user.

Skinny Chouji san>>
Ah...are you getting the 4th and the 3rd Hokage mixed up..?
The 4th one is the one who placed the nine tailed fox into Naruto and died soon after. He's also Jiraiya's student and Kakashi's teacher.

If you remember what Gai said: The name raikiri is aquired when kakashi slashed a lightning with chidori (true or not, i dunno) so logically they're not different
