Traditional apartment

I wanted to know what are the typical furniture in a Japanese Apartment. I know there are Kotatsu, futon but anything else? |

Well.... if you think Japanese apartments are all old-fashioned, you're wrong. My aunt's place is very non-traditional, with wooden doors and carpeted floors, plus plastic cabinets and marble counters. If you mean old-fashioned then it'll have kotatsu and futon as you mentioned, and the floors would be tatami, sliding doors would be made of paper and there would be wooden poles (for support) in parts of the house/apartment. Some apartments (they'd have to be pretty old) do have tatami, but I don't think it's as common anymore. The doors are still pretty common though. |

you can also have zabuton. sort of like a pillow to sit on. your legs will start to hurt a lot if you sit in seiza position on tatami without any cushion. but then again, who in their right mind sits in seiza at their own home? |

don't they have those tatami mats? I wanted one of those. Their furniture is very close to the ground. x] They sit on teh ground, which is kinda cool but I couldnt manage very well because it would be uncomfortable. ^__^'' |

Women sit in seiza all the friggin time it seems. Anyways, Its almost a Neccessity for Guest rooms to have Tatami. I never saw a house/apart with out Tatami. |
