The colour black.

Im not sure if this thread goes hear but.. When i was in science class my teacher asked us what colour is our favorite.I said black..he yelled at me and said(very loud)"BLACK IS THE INEXISTENCE OF ALL COLOUR!!"(or some thing like that)How was i suposse to know?Is this true?and if it is how so?Would white also be put in this too? im in the 9th grade.. |

Ya, black is the absence of all color. Which makes sense when you think about it, since black = nothingness = darkness. White is actually the combination of all the colors. Reason being color is light hitting pigment, with no light-no pigment-no color... something like that. :/ Is this right? |

That is true. Our eyes can only see 400-700 nm wavelength. And those wavelength correpond to different colors we see. Black is not part of it. But since you're in 9th grade, that's alright. Eventually when you take AP chem or AP physics, you'll understand a bit more. FYI: White is not a color as well.. |

Ummmm.... If you play a game that allow you to create your own color, the RGB screen will pop-up, right? And if you reduce all of the three primary colors till zero, the result is black, right? And white is the opposite. If you increase those three amount till it reaches 999, white is the result, right? But i think black is a color. A color that can't reflect any light at all... Or is it a substance? And momoi... I think your teacher is a bit rude... lol

momoi your techer really really really sucks and yeah black is not a color it's just god's way of telling u that no color is being reflected into your eye and u c darkness

That's because colours in a computer work on a hexidecimal system. They give you two digits, so normally you'd be able to chose 0 to 99 (0 to 9) with it, but with hexadecimal you can choose from 0 to FF (0 to 16 in each digit). Thus, 16x16 is 256. Just so you know, there is no color, and for that matter, there is no universe, until it is processed by your brain. Lessons in camoflaugue. It's therefore arguable that black is a color as, just like with all other colors, it is precived by your brain as a color.

In wiccan the colour black stands for something about absorbing all negativity or something along those lines so my guess is your teacher is really high or stupid.

Ok heres somthing that will mess with your head... Lets just agree for the moment that black is a colour... Somone comes up to you and asks you to describe the colour black for them, how do you do somthing like that??? Now at 1st you may think this is easy but... (Heres the catch) The person asking you has been colour blind since birth...

i'd say black is the color you get when you close your eyes in a dark room ^^ I for one am kinda grateful to the color black. Would anyone be able to sleep if the color you get when you close your eyes is bright electric green? |

Black is a colour that appears when no light is reflected back to our eyes, I think..

In the artistic sense, black and white are "shades," not "colors." In the scientific sense, black is all colors merged together, which is why black clothes get so much hotter (black absorbs all wavelengths of light and doesn't reflect any back). It's the other way around white has all the colors and doesnt absorb the colors because of that black absorbs all the heat and color because it has no color of its own

This is Evards brother here to tell everyone what black really is. Black is the absence of color. Here's why: Basically, when the sun shines down it is shining down white light. this white light contains all of the colors in the visible spectrum minus the wavelengths absorbed by atmospheric gasses. When this white lights hits something like a leaf, the "green" pigmentation in the leaf reflects the green wavelengths in the light back to our eyes, hence why leaves are green and not a combination of every color exept green. pigments reflect! they dont absorb! thats why black is the absence of color! it has no pigments and therefore absorbs all light. Because all the light is absorbed, no light is reflected towards our eyes which makes it black, because there is technically no color to see. hope we got that settled.

hmm... when we die people told me that we dont se anything but doesnt that mean that we can only see black when we die???

(to the post about the colourblindness) colour blind...red/green colour blind? u would just see red or green as differing shades of grey. IR...ROYGBV...UV each colour in the visible spectrum reflects itself + the colours on either side of it (to a lesser extent). physics wise - white = all colours combined as is reflects all the colours of the visible spectrum. black = the opposite. |
