Chess players? C'mon, let's go!

There's lots of different versions of chess in the world (or should I say beyond the universe? You need to remember the chess Chewbacca was playing against R2-D2 in Star Wars Episode IV ^_^). You've got Orthodox, Chinese, Japanese (Shogi), Korean, and I'm sure there are much more.

What my question is is what kind of a player are you? Napoleon, where you want a quick K.O.? Or are you a turtle, where you want to make the game last? Are you a trickster? Or a gambler? Stingy? Suicidal? Faker? Unusual? Simple but dangerous? Or forget the rules and let's make up something? And also to the point where you like to go first or second.

Me, I play Chinese, Orthodox, and once in a while Japanese. I love be a defensive player. I'm only offensive when my opponent is and I can do a good job at it too. I was never too much of a gambler, although I hope to be. As for suicidal, as long as in the end it would benefit me, so be it.

I was stingy at first, but I read some books to sharpen up. I want to meet any players I come across (yea, kind of like how it is in Pokemon, except I dont challenge others, THEY challenge me). I play chess (any kind) for a hobby, but not serious enough. I dont want to be crushed under a game. I'd rather be free on thought of it.

I also want to learn the different chess in the world too, maybe later that's how I'll find a different way of looking at the chessboard.

Ahh, finnally. Another person who can appreciate the fine game of chess. I myself am always thinking ten moves ahead. I try to anticipate my opponents and move in a way that would put them in a disadvantage. I guess you could call me an offensive player but I know when its not a good idea to attack. Maybe we could play online sometime. :-)

Choose your style then. Orthodox or Chinese? Then choose your color. If it's Chinese chess just choose whether you want to go first or not. I'm not too good at writing down moves, but I'll do my best.

I like orthodox,I'm a player who just plays it by ear,I react to my opponents moves. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt.

Oh, (I know this is about chess, but I've got to ask ><) isn't Go like Othello? I've never played it before... I just don't understand the concept...

I could be very wrong but I think Othello is still different than Go Hotaru. From what I understand of Go, you capture your opponent's pieces and in Othello, you turn them into your pieces in a line. I think Go requires more skill than Othello because it is more seen in tournaments.

I know what GO is but not Orthello. I love playing chess and I'm the kind of person who will eat all my opponents officials and pones while defending mine before i end the game. I want to meet people who are masters in chess. I need to wait for a year before a chess tournament in our school will be held and that is the only time when I get to play with people who are good at it. I wish i could play with you all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:)

I too am a chess player. A fan of chess. I can play the normal chess, chinese chess, and GO. If i had the chance to witness a chess competition i would most likely go for it but plauin in one is a little difficult as i m out of practice.

Who are you challenging? *goes find chess set and curses while running into the chair* Yeah so, let's first get who against who first! I'd rather have it on the thread like who to who and what to what instead of via e-mails since other people can retrace back and see what they intend to do. Any other suggestions please say so!!

I had a squadron commander that required all of us to learn traditional chess.

I play backgammon.

well, OldManKai, Maybe we should both set up a chess board next to our computers and each time someone posts we move either ours or our opponents piece to the appropriate spot. That way we could have a REALLY long chess game in the thread and still have the physical chess experience.

My dad taught me how when I was 8 or 9 years old. I won just once, and that took us hours. I believe he just let me won since
i was his little girl then. I just play, with no specific moves [English Opening, Caro-Kann Defense, Danish Gambit... etc]
