Anime
|
Hmm, I was reading though some old threads, and came apon one about Teen Titans, everyone basicly agreed that is OK, and NOT anime. The problem I have with that is, it IS anime. Bugs Bunny is Anime, so is the Simpsons. In japanese Anime refers to any cartoon. Japanese shortens long loan-words from other languages, such as remo-con (remote control), pasocon (personal computer) and so on. Anime is just the shortening the loanword from english or french, whichever you prefer. =/ Now, if you were saying that because of the style it's drawn in, I could see how you wouldnt consider Bugs bunny ect. but TT is still drawn in Japanese style, with chibi-versions, large eyes, > noses, blue haired girls, and just about any other thing you could consider japanese style. Meh, just felt like ranting. |
Re: Anime
|
It is animation but the word anime carries an implication of animation made in japan. In japanese sure they use it for any animation but in english it means something slightly different. Teen Titans is still a cartoon but it uses anime "inspired" artwork. A lot of the comic books do that nowadays anyway. So no it isn't "anime". |

America = cartoons Japan = anime Those are all I can say. |
Re: Anime

First off, the word "anime" comes from French not Japanese, so that debunks your theory. Secondly, the term now means cartoons that are specifically from Japan. It is a technical term for a medium. You're not supposed to take the word literally, baka. For example, any place where people discuss ideas could conceivably be called a forum, but does anyone call your high school quad a forum? No. In modern usage, a forum is an online site involving topics, threads, and posts. Your problem is that you don't understand the difference between denotation and connotation. |
Re: Anime

I agree with Patty Mac, except that animes arent specifically from Japan. Anime is a term used for all cartoons that use the japanese drawing style, thats why animes like the anime movie "Wonderful days" (which isnt a japanese movie, but korean) is an anime. I never saw Teen Titans, but if it uses completely the japanese drawing-style it is an anime. |

"Anime is just the shortening the loanword from english or french" an·i·me n. A style of animation developed in Japan, characterized by stylized colorful art, futuristic settings, violence, and sex. [Japanese, short for animshon, animation, from English animation.] Source: The American Heritage® Dictionary of the English Language, Fourth Edition You could also see; The Japanese term for animation is アニメーション (animÄ“shon, pronounced: /É‘nimÉ›Ëʃɔn/), written in katakana. It is a direct transliteration of the English term "animation." The Japanese term is abbreviated as アニメ (anime, pronounced: /É‘nimÉ›/ ). Both the original and abbreviated forms are valid and interchangeable in Japanese. The term is a broad one, and does not specify an animation's nation of origin or style. Sorce: Wikipedia The word forum indicates a place where people come togeather and talk, as you said, thus how INTERNET forums got their name. However, There are still Town Forums. Highschool quads are not called forums, because that is not their main use. Internet Forums acctualy are specificly designed for disscussion, so thats where they get their name. Baka. |

I don't think anime come from french and it is really come from japan! You see anime is the shorten word of animation! And it is not from french since I heard that anime in french means something else! Thats wat I think!

Re: Anime

totally agree!!! No matter what, Japanese otaku will never accept the fact that teen titan or any other american cartoon is anime!!!!! Even in Excel Saga, they totally made fun of american cartoon and declare that american cartoon can NEVER be anime. See? Even Japanese say so - -;

Re: Anime

yeah i agree... japanese anime is too good for american cartoon... and in terms of their styles in drawing perpective to things are totally different.... the gap between the two is too big.... |
Re: Anime
|
we can't compare american cartoon and anime is the same. even if they just followed japanese style and japan soundtrack, it doesn't have an anime spirit. as much as we watch them we can't just say it as an anime. the big difference is the teen titans doesn't have counted episode and linked storyline just like anime has. how bad is the anime , anime always has a linked and counted storyline episodes. so if tou just missed one episodes and you watch the next episodes you can know the PLOT!! but american cartoon doesn't have linked storyline. so if you missed one episode you still know the plot. BECAUSE THE PLOT OF AMERICAN CARTOON ALWAYS SAME!!! so that's the big difference. No! the big difference anime is the one that have a spirit that we can't compre with the other. how hard it is, it will be just the same. |
Re: Anime
|
I think I can describe it like this... Some Americans think cartoons are for entertainment use only. Japanese gave life to the cartoons and POOF!!! Anime is born! So anime is a refined version of cartoons. It isn't for entertainment use only (except some series lke Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo), cuz it contains a lot of morality points. Anime has a soul and only we, the fans, can understand it.

Re: Anime

You guys say that animes made in america arent really animes, but how about the animes made in korea and china?? |
Re: Anime
|
The cartoons made in China have very different styles to those made in Japan. It's really quite easy to tell. But as to those made in Korea, it's not very easy to spot, since many Japanese anime nowadays have Korean animators as well... |

Anime pertains to animation made in Japan. At least that's what I think! = ) Most cartoons are made for little children/toddlers, while most anime have violence, so it is not suitable for little children. Anime isn't the same as cartoons. = )
The more you learn, the more you know, the more you know, the more you forget...so WHY LEARN AT ALL???...P.S. Am I banned? Wah.
