Im taking Elementary Japanese at a local university because I have nothing better to do for the summer. The thing is that I really want to learn this language, but my High School isn't teaching it and the university isn't offering any intermediate level classes for the summer break.... so im pretty much gonna be devoid of the next level of Japanese for a few years.. What activities and such should I do so that this awesome language doesn't slowly die within me... So that my vacation to Japan doesn't require a translator... So that all the little boys and girls in Africa don't starve... So that my kids dont grow up to become druggies... So that my wife doesn't cheat on me... All because.. I forgot Nihongo... ^___^;;

Not that I am an expert, but: If you watch a LOT of anime, get some songs you really like, or even a conversation. Watch it without subtitles...then translate it. You can check your self to the lyrics, and I even know of a sight that places the characters, the english, and the Japanese(written in english) where you can compare them. Hope this isn't too late. Also, go to a book store and check out their language section. You can get one of the more advanced learning kits and use their activities and flash cards and such to help you practice. I work at a bookstore, so I have two cd sets, 2 computer programs, Kanji flash cards...ect...problem is, I am LAZY and prefer to have some one else tell me what's going on(although, even with my meager knowledge, I am starting to see translation mistakes...YEAH! I got smarteder!). Of course, bad part about being lazy is I go around town singing cutesy songs about perky breasts...dern Cutey Honey!!!!! I had to go and translate all my songs after that! Sniff...not effort..no...no work....sniff...
Where do those mallets come from anyways?

| Yeah.....if it doesnt teach it..study youself..buy lots of books..and study...like set a limit...like your going to memorize 10 words in each day and then the next day make sure you remember them....then study new stuff...thats how I learned english...other then the clases I took...my english still isnt that good though yet >.< I pronounce words wrongs sometimes and I have an accent |
