What exactly happened at the end of Evangelion?
|
Neon Genesis Evangelion was the first anime I ever watched. It was years ago, but I still have one burning question--what happened in the ending? I never did get it. For a long time I thought that everyone had died, but now my sister is saying that she thinks Shinji turned into God. So what really happened? HELP! |

I thought he liked Rei more thats y they fused or something right?well it was all twisted and stuff so only a totally insane minded person would get it I guess the animator has that kind of mind. |

I got confused too. I mean, it was so confusing. @_@ I liked Episode 26's ending better. (Really) I agree with y0shi18 about Shinji and Asuka as the next Adam and Eve. EVA is my favorite shounen anime (Despite the ending.) My question sounds dumb, but (Prepare yourself) Did the third impact happened?! Some websites on EVA believed that the third impact had failed just because shinji rejected instrumentaly (Sp?) while some says everyone was destroyed... all except for asuka and shinji. At first, my theory was that if Shinji rejects, the impact fails. Don't worry, oldcrow. You aren't alone. I heard that Anno (The director) could have use the lost episodes 'Air' and 'My purest heart for you' for the series, but ran out of time. I rewatched EoE and read the script (found it on google). I still couldn't understand! site for script: http://evaotaku.com/html/AIR
Inuyasha: "Kagome! Time to start dinner!" (Drags out ramen)
Kagome: "OSUWARI!"

It was vague on purpose. I saw it as though Rei merged with Lilith on her own accord, and all of humanity became one in order to fill the 'void' (they became the HUGE Rei). If you recall, they constantly spoke of humans having an 'empty void'-- being whatever it was that they feared. In order to complete humanity, they all had to merge, and so they did. And thus, they completed the cycle of life when the giant Rei died. The only people who didn't join as one to fill the 'void' were Shinji and Asuka. They remained on Earth and became a new Adam and Eve. That was what I think happened. |

I couldn't agree more with Yunalesca. i was confused myself untill i read his/her reply on this topic. It makes great sence that Shinji and Asuka became the next Adam and Eve. |

Thanks, everyone who replied, especially y0shi18--I think I like his answer the best, although other people's were also helpful. |

everybody died and now shinji and asuka have a big problem to re populate earth. |

its kinda gay when everyone died. i have a question about the very ending when Shinji chokes Asuka at the beach. did she come back to life?? |

What I thought happened is that in the two movies for eva, those old men decides to start the human instrumentality project but gendou had his own ideas about it. Because of that, the old men tricked the JP gov to send troops in and kills everyone at NERVE. Gendou expected that he would be the form the instrumentality project would take but Rei rejected Gendou and decides that she would be the one. then blah blah blah happend and the project using EVA 01 started. As that happens everyone 'died' when their spirits left their body and joins with Rei-Lilith. She takes Eva01/Shinji into herself but after much confusing debate, Shinji decides that he would rather live with his anxieties and uncertainty than be part of the project. Dont know about how Asuka came back but the theory posted here are the best one that I can support. And I agree with the new Adam&Eve theory. |
