Good-Bye Lenin? I liked it. Uhh... there's also tons of Chinese movies (many old) and maybe a couple of Japanese movies and Korean that are VERY well done, but I can't read the names!

Maybe My Sassy Girl? It was a hit in Korea.

Boogiepop and Others.
This is not actually an anime, although it does relate to Boogiepop Phantom. It's live-action based off of the book, and has been subbed, and I believe dubbed, though I will never watch the dub if it has been. Anyway...*cough*...good movie.

Fever Pitch (1997) - I don't think if you're a Football(Soccer) fan you would have seen it. It has the actor Colin Firth (from Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason starring as Mark Darcy) in it as the main character.

The movie's about the main character who is so passionate about football(Soccer) that his mood is determined by whether his favourate team Arsenal (YAY! GO ARSENAL!) win, or lose in a match. He also meets someone he loves and struggles to balance his passion for football(soccer) and the time he spents with his lover.

Mr Vampire- don't think anyone has seen it cause it was made 20 years ago and it came from china/hong kong. the film is really fun and scary

heero yuy is the best-better than all the rest

Here are some I like that most people in the 'normal' crowd probable never hear of, much less seen. I'm saying this b/c people who watch anime & don't think "only for kids" are normally considered an odd ball at there high school. (stilling going or when you where there before graduating). Some of you Most likly have heard of them, but here they are:
The Labyrinth
The Dark Crystal
The Legend
Lost Boys

& Razz Veilansher, "James and the Giant Peach" I'm not sure but I think that is a Disney movie so alot of people who have rent &/or bought alot of Disney movies for the childern will know that title. I should know My mom has like every movie on VHS for me & my sister when we were little; until about seven years ago when the quality of there flims started to go down the drain. The art has improved, but the flim itself lacks. There are only a few that are still worth collecting. You know for when she gets gradchildern form me & my sister one day. I even have the three music videos that Disney did why back then. Has anyone else seen them before?

Never date a guy stranger than you. If so, make sure he's loaded.

I really liked this movie we watched in German last year called "No More Mister Nice Guy"

It was truly beautiful and I totally recomend seeing it XD

I would also recomend watching "Project A-ko" Which is an older anime movie but it was amazing.

They also made a short series after the movie but they're nowhere near as good.

Hmm...well I watch alot of foreign movies and I'm pretty sure a friend of mine wouldn't know what I was talking about if I mentioned them to her. I'll name some of the foreign movies I think are lesser known for the less aquainted with subtitles audience.

Chinese Odyssey 2002- A very funny Hong Kong comedy starring Tony Leung Chiu Wai <3, Faye Wong, Vicki Zhao, and Chang Chen. Lots of gender misunderstandings, silliness, and a musical number ^_^.

The Bird People in China- A great film by Takashi Miike featuring little violence, no sex, and an affecting story.

The White Dragon- Silly movie, but I loved it anyway. I call it the funner "House of Flying Daggers". Love the two leads, Cecilia Cheung and Francis Ng.

Devils on the Doorstep- Tragicomedy starring and directed by Jiang Wen. I don't know what to say about it, but it's an amazing movie.

Oasis- Amazing acting from Moon So-Ri and Sol Kyung-gu. I expected this movie to be trite, but I got alot more than I expected.

Bright Future- It's sort of weird, but not really. Lot's of jellyfishies. There's also Odagiri Joe and Tadanobu Asano (woohoo! <3 <3 <3).

Rachida- This movie takes a look at terrorism in Algeria through the point of view of a young school teacher named Rachida. It's not a "horror" movie, but I felt very scared for the characters in the movie.

Memories of Murder- Based on true events of some serial killings of 10 women that occured in South Korea in the late 1980s. Outstanding performances from everybody in the movie. The cinematography (or whatever you call it) is very well done too.

Take Care of My Cat- This was the beginning of my love affair with Korean film (;p). It's about five female friends who try to stay close when they get out of high school, but they've obviously changed.

Hotel Hibiscus- We follow around Meiko a young girl from Okinawa with a diverse family. This is a very sweet and funny movie. Meiko farts and screams at the top of her lungs, but I loved the character anyways :).

Gomen- Well, Sei (12 yrs old) the main character get's his first ________ (I don't know if I write it, it'll be considered rude :D). Another sweet and funny movie from Japan that aired on AZN (I was surprised they showed some good movies :p). I love the scene where Sei goes into the bathroom and screams "That's not piss!"...I couldn't stop laughing :D.

Happy Times- I'm sure most people are familiar with Zhang Yimou since he's made two commercial films that came over to the U.S. ("Hero", yaaaay "House of Flying Daggers" boooo) But maybe they haven't seen his earlier smaller films like this one? I love this movie, it get's to me every time (same with "Not One Less" and "The Road Home").

Johnny Stenchino (or something like that ^^;)- Very funny movie starring Roberto Benigni. The main character is mistaken for a mafioso and all sorts of hilarity follows :).

Stray Dog- Well maybe it's not that known since it stars Toshiro Mifune is directed by Akira Kurosawa and there are no samurai to be found. It's a great one anyway (is that even a surprise :p).

There's some more foreign movies I would like to name, but it's almost my bed time :p.

Are the anime crowd familiar with the movies "My Beautiful Girl, Mari" and "Tripletts of Belleville"? If not, those two are excellent animated movies! I love the style of animation of both and their stories :).

Some english speaking movies that maybe are unnoticed

Strictly Ballroom- My favorite movie about dancing. Watched it 5 times and it never gets old. Aussie film.

Trust- Ugh, my sleepiness is kicking in. But this movie is funny and sad. The two main characters have great chemistry.

Mansfield Park- Very nice drama and I didn't expect to like it so much. It's based on some book.

Steamboat Bill, Jr.- I think it's considered a classic, but maybe modern audiences haven't heard of it?? Anyways it's a very funny silent film. Lots of slapstick.

Monkey Business- Another old funny movie, but this one is a talkie. It made me laugh alot!!! Surprise for me since I sometimes give old movies a hard time.

My Best Girl- Another silent film. This one is a very charming romantic comedy. It gets a bit melodramatic towards the ending, but it didn't ruin the movie for me.

The Brother from Another Planet- Interesting Sci Fi flick. An alien ends up in the Ghetto and he's mute. Repeated alot on ifc.

Harold and Maude- I love the pairing in this movie. And the fake suicide attempts are hilarious.

Oh my I wrote too much. I have a headache now.

Xian thanks for the recommendation. I have been looking for German movies to put on my "must see list" :).

*oh sheesh I just noticed the topic starter said Indies. Hope you don't mind.

Smi, I applaud at your knowledge of foreign movies!

I would also recommend
Zona J- A portuguese movie, about a group of teenagers that live one of the worst streets in Lisbon, and without any money or conditions for survival they get involved in a jewelry store robbery.

The City of lost children- A cientist, that cannot dream, kidnaps young children to steal their dreams. And a child that arrives to the City of lost children to search for his brother. From the same guys that directed "Amelie"

Life is Beautiful- a comedy set in the WW2 by Roberto Benigni, a must see
