That most words are spelled the way they sound! I hate learning languages that have messed up spelling... >_>

Plus there's the fact that English can have up to five words to describe one thing while Japanese has one word to describe five things.

You don't need anything changed for plurals? How about that? |

I like how there are only two irregular verbs in the language. It makes it much easier to learn how to conjugate and so on. Also just how the language sounds. It just kind of flows together. It's not like some of the more gargled languages |

Hirigana is better I think. Though people now use kanji and hirigana mixed I think hirigana looks prettier. Kanji is sorta a duplicate of chinese. Learning kanji is way hard. I'm chinese so i have to memorize two pronunciations .ic. ~tt

Hirigana is easier for me. And Kanji is the hardest for everyone. I'm chinese and I can't even memorize all those characters yet. T_T;;;;

Some Japanese words don't look the way they sound. The "u" in some of the words are silent. Ex: Spelling- Yusuke Pronounciation- Yuske |
Re: Ya know whats great about the japanese language?
|
The u in "Yusuke" is not really silent, neither is the u in "desu", etc. What you do is you kind of swallow the u...aargh, I really can't describe it. |
Re: Ya know whats great about the japanese language?

Nah, if you know Chinese, especially Cantonese, learning the pronounciation of Japanese is easy coz some of the songs are borrowed over from spoken Chinese and mainly in the Cantonese dialect. And if you know Chinese, obviously you not gonna have problems with writing. The difference between the Chinese and Japanese language is like that of Calculus and Introductory Calculus (there's these two units in our high schools here). Meaning that if you know Calculus, doing intro calc is easy. Plus Intro Calc is drawn from Calculus just as JP is drawn from Chinese. |

japanese is a beautiful language, in my opinion that is. but i stopped learning it some time ago. and i find it hard with so many forms, like the de-form, informal-form and so on. and then sometimes i would mix up chinese with kanji..-_- and there are some words that you have to pronounce in this certain tone or else its mixed up with another meaning... |
Re: Ya know whats great about the japanese language?

isn't it hiragana... not 'hirigana' |

Yea Japanese seems like such a copmplex language at first sight but as you get into it your surprised to find that it's simple because they like to keep things simple and easy unless stupid english, I think that sooner or later English should be done away with (as should the english system of measurement, someone please tell me why we in america still measure using inches and pounds and all that stupid stuff... metric is just so much more simple...) i have to agree, japanese is the best!!
"Everyone has a photographic memory, some just don't have any film..." "Friends are the people who know everything about you and still put up with you!" "Nothing in life is free, even death costs us."

hehe I like that they use so many Kanji cuz I'm Chinese ^^ but if you're not Chinese then it's the worst part about Japanese... well I'm having a hard time w/ Kanji pronounciations too... but still, it's much faster reading stuff w/ so many Kanjis... actually I think the best part for both Chinese and non-Chinese ppl is that it has SOOOO little pronounciations... for example if you learn Chinese you're gonna be pretty stressed over the Z's and ZH's and X's [arrr and my last name is Xia...], but on the other hand if you're Chinese you know how hard it is with the TH sound and syllables with more than 1 consonant [just like how "present" is "purezento" in jap...] |
