since i started reading the posts on this site, i've been hearing of animes that seem to go on forever. so my question is this... what should be the limit on the number of episodes an anime should have? personally, the limit i think should be 52 episodes AT MOST and if the anime in question is really good. so what do you guys think? *0*

it actually depends... If the show starts to feel "repetitive"... maybe... its time to stop... Unless it continues to delever new and Original episodes... well... I think its ok...  Kneel Before the Great and Benevolent Cow! |

I think series like Pokemon that have like.. 700+ episodes and couting... are too long rofl.., but thats just me. I own many series that have 24-26 episodes, and Im just fine with that, but the more episodes means the more money you spend to get them all.... I think an anime would get to 50-60 before Id be tired of it, depending on the plot. |

| ya kaimira is right depending on the plot the story might get really borring if its draged out like dragon ball its blow up planet here wish it back few mins later over and over not much of a story but get stronger beat stronger people but naruto has a good plot outline in the begining eps and letting the story unfold |

some anime can only have very few episodes while some others can afford to drag on for a little while longer... basically, super duper long animes are lousy on the whole. Take a good look at naruto, it was exciting and nice at the beginning...now? it became boring and slow in story progress... it is at episode 150+ now... and it hasnt ended yet... still got long long way 2 go... another example would be inuyasha... PUI!!! it sucks man, so long and draggy...boring fighting as they always use the same moves...
Fin. Nothing's better than kawaii girls.

Well I dont think there should necessary be a limit to the number of episodes. If the author can continue to deliver original and interesting story, then it should continue for as long as necessary. The only time there's a real issue is when the author drags it out and the plot becomes repetitive and just plain ridiculous. i agree that inuyasha was way too long. and its overrated =_= but naruto is only very slow now b/c of those fillers. once the fillers are done, the storyline will pick up again. =) its good to depend on the manga sometimes...  |

| As long as the stories r nice i couldnt careless about how long it goes. Admit it, sometimes the show is so damn good u would wish it could continue. Haing part 2 of the anime is also good maybe. It gives u a break or something. |

I agree with some of the people below, as long as the story is still good, the graphics are still decent and the anime still maintains it's interesting factor then it doesn't matter how many episodes it has.  |

An anime series should be as long as it needs to be, but the end should leave you wishing there could have been a little bit more. None of these scraping-at-the-bottom-of-the-barrel-drag-on-filler-plots.

If I absolutely had to place a limit on a number of episodes, I would say... maybe about 55 or so. But, (not meaning to dethrone you, Mousuke) the ending and throughout the whole thing, the end should leave you feeling like the entire thing has come to an end, all is well, no loose ends, etc.  |

for the most part i'd say 40 - 60 at most but for inuyasha man that should've ended at 20

It really depends on the storyline... Some of my really fave anime, like hikaru no go, i wished they cld have extended it a little more even though they've 70+ eps already But others which have already exhausted the possibilities of the storyline...... well... 2 I can think of are rurouni kenshin and prince of tennis. Both are wonderful animes that started really well, but things went downhill as the shows progressed. |

@ Twinblade I haven't watched naruto, only read part of the manga so i can't judge another series tt seems to go on forever is detective conan, but it ain't bad a really torturous series tt shld have ended sooner was the Sailormoon franchise. I cringed everytime they transformed |

I think it depends myself. If a show has some good character development and good, and a varied, plot development then a lot of episodes wouldn't be that bad. But if it's repetative then you don't have good viewing. Personally I thought that Pokemon started out quite well, the stories of how Ash got his first few Pokemon and how he met Misty, Brock and Team Rocket I found quite enjoyable. But then marketing took over and it won't stop x_X Personally I loved the original 150 Pokemon (151 is you want with Mew) but then they introduced the second batch and that's where my interest ran away. Inuyasha....I dunno, never seen it. It doesn't look like my thing anyway. |

I think it all depends I mean I've seen anime that over hundreds of episodes long (InuYasha, Naruto for some smaller examples) but in the end I was still loving almost every episode and I was so hooked. There are just some story lines that could almost go on forever, Pokemon is not one of them though. When things start to get repetative, like in Pokemon and the writers are scratching around for a new plot twist or something interesting then it's time for the show to end and fast... But there are some that should be kept short and for those one's sometimes it's the shorter the better. Really there is no limit that should, can or will be set on episodes. Although I tend to notice that ones over 100 or so episodes begin to get a little annoying and tend to need to end...
