Multiple meanings or just one?
Link | by Lith on 2005-10-19 18:11:47
Is it just to have one meaning, or can we just throw caution to the wind and say anything is anything we want it to be?

I say it's all perspective

All perspective, huh? I'd first ask you, would you let anything bad happen to your family? If no, then, would you stop anyone trying to plot the most aweful of things against your family? But, you shouldn't stop people just because of their perspectives telling them they should do something bad to your family, right? So, what's the answer; stop the person from harming your family, or is it okay for them to do so because their perspectives tell them it's okay?

That simply means that there would be a clash, or conflict of ideas and beliefs.. Citing one example...

Hitler thought that the Aryan race should be kept clean and pure. The Jews, well he considered as trash. Dirtying the pureness of the Aryan race. That's why he initiated the Holocausts, or mass killing of Jews in Germany. The Whole world thinks that is wrong. So then one of the reasons of world war two is this.

Everyone just do your own thing. There isn't a right answer to anything. If someone wants to kill my family I kill them instead. They may think that killing my family is right but I think killing them is right. It's all perspective.

I'm not sure I undestand what you're asking.

Lith wrote " So, what's the answer; stop the person from harming your family, or is it okay for them to do so because their perspectives tell them it's okay?"

Ranger says, "Let them try they have to come through me first".

Typical.

Wolf replied, "Everyone just do your own thing. There isn't a right answer to anything. If someone wants to kill my family I kill them instead. They may think that killing my family is right but I think killing them is right. It's all perspective".

So when do you kill them? Before they are a threat? When they become a threat? My brother has threatened to kill Ranger. Does that mean Ranger should Ranger then kill Harry first?

That question, Lady Rin, is designed to stir a moral stance. I'm asking, should we let people go because it's just their perspective that tell them to do so, or is it just always one truth that governs us all and not let anyone just do anything they pleased just as their perspective say to.

As for killing Harry, killing is never a good.

Awwww, it's good to be back!

*hugs Lith* I'm glad you're back I missed you.

First of all Lith I don't believe in violence or harming others, I know it can't be avoided but I try. So your question is confusing to me.

Is there one truth governing? I don't think so. Each of us has our own truth; what we believe is right, wrong or indifferent.

" Each of us has our own truth; what we believe is right, wrong or indifferent."

I'm asking what you would do. If someone believed in something, even though it's wrong, would you let them go on thinking that? Because, not is it just wrong to let the blind walk in traffic, but also wrong for a person not to yell stop.

In other words, should we stop people from thinking the wrong thing? It's like a school with a high priority on clothing. A person who looks like a bum will discredit the school. And with that one person, there goes the reputation of the whole school. And so I ask, should we just let anyone believe in what they believe and that's that?

What kind of truth?
Common truth? If I climb on rocks I could fall to my death.
Scientific truth? A+B+C=Ans
Personal truth, I believe in fairys. Hey, I know someone who believes that. Why should I tell her that's wrong? When I first found out about it I thought she was a loony. When I found out how serious she really was I asked myself do I have the right to try to teach her otherwise. Is it really wrong?

If I say in a class without water in the desert you can die. I've told you the truth even if you believe otherwise. You say bullshit Truth is I'm I great shape a 2.5 mile hike in the early morning on an easy rated trail is apiece of cake. That's your truth. It's cool and it is an easy walk. Doesn't matter, you're not gonna find out until it's too late anyway. Truth of the matter is that's a true story and he died, happened in Aug '03

Same thing if a guy wants to breaks into my house and assault Rin. His attitude is quiet area, gentle Rin must have a wuss husband. Truth is he walks into the house and finds Rin's protected by a visous bastard, I kill. Truth: I will not hesitate to use deadly force, ever. No discussions, no chance, my truth. Shoot first then you don't need questions.

right, wrong or indifferent.

Right, if you hike in the desert take water otherwise you take a risk.
Wrong, It's Ok it's only a short morning walk.
Indifferent; fine, go, die, I don't care.

You asked, If someone believed in something, even though it's wrong, would you let them go on thinking that?

You can talk to people about this all you want. What they perceive to be truth is unwaverable, Nothing you say is going to make them believe otherwise. Try it on Lady Rin see if you can change her mind about fairys.

I thought that was a pretty good answer.

There are many kinds of truths. Like...
Truth: wood comes from a tree.
Truth: water is needed for life
Could be truth, could be false: killing is good.
False: the sky is usually hot pink.
Some things are just plain true, some are just false, and some depend on many things. If a serial killer is going to kill you, and nothing you can do will stop him, then kill him first. By killing him, you may have saved some other lives as well as yours. A bad way to kill is to kill someone because they said that you're stupid.
There are too many kinds of truths to say "Everyone follow what is true to me."

it depends on who's perspective it is.

the point of view which is most important still depends on what social and cultural norms one follow.
