Hi,I am a newbie in the nearby Japanese learning course. I had my first lesson yesterday and it is about adjectives. There is one thing that make me confused, both tall and expensive in japanese is 高ã„. Is it the correct one or I wrote the wrong thing in my notebook? |

takai by itself as an adjective means expensive, but when associated with ones height means tall (se ga takai) |

高ㄠmeans litterally tall. a shelf that is out of reach is 高ã„. we have the same idiom for expensive in english, a "steep price". |

Thanks for the replies! One more question, can one's name written in both hiragana and katakana? Like Yamata, can I write it in ã‚„ã¾ãŸ and ヤマタ? |

Yep, you have it right in your notebook. The use of 高ㄠjust depends on context, whether is an expensive price or just height. Interestingly, the same kanji is used for the word high school é«˜æ ¡ or koukou. |

If they are Japanese, IE. Yamamoto it would be eather Kanji or Hiragana; 山本ã€ã‚„ã¾ã‚‚ã¨. If it is a NON-Japanese name, IE Thomas, it must be in Katakana. トーマス |
