Any opinions on In The Groove?

For those who don't know, In The Groove is a derivative game of DDR, running on a heavily modified version of Stepmania. It's relatively the same (four panels, same arrow arrangement [LDUR], etc.) but the difficulty is, on the whole, FAR higher. Personally, I'm a huge fan of In The Groove (my local arcade has an ITG 2) mostly because I've already beaten almost everything on DDR, and the new songs and higher average difficulty on ITG is very welcome. ITG 2 also introduces hands and mines to 4-panel dance games. Hands are when you have to hit more than two arrows at once, which unless you have huge feet, is best done by bending over and hitting the extra arrows with your hands. Mines are exactly that; mines. If you step on one, you lose some life and some score (measured in percentage instead of points.) Here's an example. Paranoia Survivor MAX Oni. This is about as hard as DDR gets. 613 steps, 42 jumps, 5 freezes, going at 290 BPM for about 1:30. Stepchart Pandemonium Expert is close to as hard as ITG gets. 858 steps, 109 jumps, 42 holds, 37 mines going at 330 BPM for about 1:50. Stepchart: Stepchart One of the other extremely hard charts is Hardcore of the North Expert. 898 steps, 81 jumps, 31 holds, 68 mines (some of which are a BITCH to dodge), between 110.4 and 169 BPM, just about 2 minutes. Stepchart And one of my personal favorite charts, Bend Your Mind Expert. 450 steps, 16 jumps, 99 freezes, 33 hands, 140 BPM, about 2 minutes. Stepchart |

My friend has the PS2 version which has some annoying load times, but I like it well enough. I enjoy it more, though, playing it in stepmania b/c I have all the ITG1 songs and some ITG2 in stepmania. I don't really like the noteskins in ITG and that's why I just play stepmania most of the time. |

| my favorite song from DDR is RHYTHM AND POLICE!! I love how it first starts while you're waiting to dance. ^_^ |

| In the groove is cool my fav song is charlene ^^ but id prefer DDR born and raised with DDR i barely learned about ITG like 2 days ago its harder ill admit only the bombs piss me off |

I've played ITG in an arcade. My fav. songs are Queen of Light, Charlene and Disconnected...
