In my honest opininon since Squaresoft's transition to Square Enix, the quality of their games have seriously decreased. They just cant make games with impact(Advent Children is not a game). Like Musashi Samurai Legends....yucks. I see Square Enix as trying to eat off the brand names created by the golden age of Squaresoft. What happened to the days when we could play FFVII/FFVIII/FFX and feel proud? Anyone has input?  |

I agree. What happened to the classic games like Chrono Trigger? I bet it would sell if they make a remake of that. My faith lies in Atlus USA now |

Konami on the other hand has been making solid if not good games, like Castlevania: Curse of Darkness, WE9, MGS, Coded Arms etc. except for the suikoden series. The older ones were better but im looking forward to Suikoden V. |

hey...whats this about...bad talking the greatest creators...but its true...its going alittle downhill...would be great if they remade the FF series using PS2 graphics...imagine the money they could make! but due to signed contracts remakes "cannot happen" loosers...konami, namco, nippon ichi, etc. they seem to be doing well now though.

| Personally, the only reason why certain companies are lacking now is their ability to make games truthfully original and worth the storyline. I see for the fact that Konami's sequels of Suikoden have received feedbacks for great graphics and characters; innovation of gameplays, a new array of options to choose from that were not obviously presented to the past games, etc. But players would complain about the downside of the storyline, then compare them to the earlier ones. I would say it's haply true, when you can see them going back to the 2D series. Unfortunately, they'd be expecting the 5th as bad as the 3rd/4th. |

As I see it, the problem with most of the video game companies now is they can't survive without building on the success of their older games. Everyone is always waiting for the next Final Fantasy. Some great companies like Treasure have been putting out innovative games for years and held to promises of nothing but new ideas but hard economic times have forced them to resend their "no sequel" policy. Guardian Heroes Advance and Gun Star Super Heroes are good games but they are IMO far inferior to the originals. In my opinion Final Fantasy is walking close to the same path. I've played all the FFs from 1-X2 so far and I have to say none of the ones from VII up were as good as VI in terms of story. Graphically any of the others would crush VI but VI to me was a better game because of the secrets, side stories, and character development. It was a great game without CG movies every few minutes. Lately Final Fantasy has been flashy and pretty, but lacked substance. (Damn you X2) I see no problem with building success on existing series but companies should take the time to add some substance to make the game more enjoyable as well as pretty. I will not totally diss Square Enix until after they finally put out a new Actraiser. (I know it will never happen, but I can dream)  Good? Bad? I'm the guy with the gun. - Ash, Army of Darkness |

and another problem with current games is as long as it has a good franchise (final fantasy)..it'll probably sell more than inovative games...like ico and prince of persia... and i agree with doraemon...well my first rpg is ff7 but after playing the anthologies,chronicles etc...i see that the older games are far superior to newer titles...plus they've got good innovative gameplay(ff5 excellent job system) and epic story... plus i think most people buy the ff games for the graphics and cgi... i hope a game like chrono trigger will happen again... a great collaboration of hori, sakaguchi and toriyama... |

I think Square Enix lacks in the story and makes their games easier so that more people would want to buy it...especially those who lacks in patience. I, for one, didn't enjoy the Star Ocean 3 story, the second was better. Maybe the Final Fantasy X too...  ^_^v PEACE OUT! |

| Faith you're right, Square-Enix is ruining their own games, FFX was good, but the story wasnt so good. FFX-2 was very bad, there shouldnt be fan service. |

| They don't make bad games. I mean, the thing is the sequels are not AS good as the rest of the series (Final Fantasy) but even so I still love the games, no matter how ridiculous the story may be. I miss Nobuo Uematsu and his killer music, but even he was lacking in talent after all those FF games. Square Enix will still be number one for me when it comes to RPGs. Graphics and gameplay are one of the big points for me, story comes after (not to say that story is not important, : P). |

I second that notion Doraemon...Eienhander was excellent...curious they never continued it. I think losing Mr.Sakaguchi-san really hurt Square in the story-telling aspect of the FF games...correct me if i'm wrong but i think he wrote the stories for FF 1-9....8 i think was someone else...it's a shame he quit to start his own company. I believe ever since the failed attempt at motion picture with Spirits Within (though they made it up with FF-AC) Square has had some up & downs....they lost alot of money due to it...and the games have been less than stellar.Hopefully they can reach the pinacle that they once had and deliver some top-notch games. They're still the best in RPGs but alot of other companies are not far off...(Nippon Ichi anyone?)  |

Well, today SE has just released Kingdom Hearts 2 (Japanese ver.). Now, the good games are about to be released. FF7:Dirge of Cerberus, FF12, and KH2 (US ver) These games will decide, how good Square-Enix is.  |
