My guess is that Howl's Moving Castle and Spirited Away were made by Hayao Miyazaki and the dub was made by Disney. That's all I can really think of. The content too, maybe... |

Disney obviously has the money to release movies in theaters whereas all anime companies don't. |

Not to mention Americans in still overwhelming numbers place a premium on anything bearing the Disney seal. As if it's not legitimized until Disney says so. I knew that Miyazaki films were great long before Disney "gave approval". I knew "Howls Moving Castle" was a great book when I was a kid. Another factor to consider is that many Disney movies are stand alone. Kenshin, Full Metal Alchemist, and the like are dependent on those familiar with the series. Average Americans are already unlikely to get into anime, much less an anime series. Not to mention these shows are rather mature in concept, as opposed to say Disney's "Chicken Little" which is "safe". (inoffensively bland) Audiences in America often do not like their animation mature. It's too alien a concept. |
