Stress Affecting DDR
Link | by pocko on 2005-12-15 06:45:51
While not the best dancer, I love DDR, and I usually play a range of 5-7 foot songs.... until I moved a few months ago. The "new" local machine is in the same arcade chain, with the same set-up as the "old" one, but I always feel incredibly nervous when I dance there and as a result I keep busting it. It's starting to become quite embarassing. x.x

Does stress affect your skill, or do you cast all worries to the wind when you're playing DDR?

I think that stress might have some factor in someaones preformance in DDR, but I'm not 100% certain of that.

Stress does affect your ability to play. If you are afraid you'll mess up, most likely you will. I remember I failed an easy song for me, because I kept focusing on impressing the people. Now when I get on there, I just play, and not worry about anyone else. Just remember, most of those people aren't as good as you yet, and the ones that are betters, there were in the same position you were.

I just altogether avoided public arcade machines until I could do 10+ foot songs on my pad at home. Then I could play without worry in public.

Aww, you should try the public machines. Believe me, people go there trying beginner and fail light sometimes. It's a fun experience, and you get to set goals with your friends. Going to the public machines was the only reason why I get better. Just meet some new people and you guys can get better together. We had a DDR crew going, when I first joined it I was the worst. Now I'm one of the best, and I'm known as the freestyling moder. I love my mods.

I beleive stress haas alot to do with your DDR preformance. WHen your having a bad day or your being watched your mind is most likely wandering to other places. "You've got to keep your head in the game" as some say

"I can hear the call of the wolves"

Sure enough like other daily activities stress affects how you play in DDR. But don't be nervous everyone messes up, and eventually you'll get use to it. Next time you go to the local arcade try to play with a good friend, or though this might sound really mean, but play with someone who isn't that good...^__^;;
