you all have chosen your fav rpgs...from final fantasy to xenogears we all have our favs...now its time to choose your favorite battle system that kept you hook to all those rpgs! my favs are (in no particular order) 1. ff1's choose your party system...i liked the way your given a chance to pick your character class early on... 2.ff5 and tactics "job system" one of the series best! multiple character classes means a lot of class combinations to your liking 3.ff7's materia system is cool and lets you adjust it to suit your style 4 ff8 junction system...again it give the player customizability on how to junction each magic to suit player's fighting styles... 5. Legaia's "fighting" system...i don't know the name of their battle system but it sure was fun finding moves for each character 6. Suikoden combo system...sure the battle system in this game is turn based traditional fighting but finding two or more right party members creates new character combos!cool there's more!how about you guys? |

I would have to say the fight system that I like the most was in Star Ocean Till the End of Time. It Gave you the option of chosing how you wanted to raise your character and the formations that you could chose were extremely cool. Another good one is the Final Fantasy Ten Two series. It was kind of like FF5 in the way you could pick your job, but different because you could change in the battle depending on what the situtaion called for |

Kakkoi thread, zparticus-san! Let's see..., you've just mentioned few of the battle systems that I like. But I'll add mine. ~FF8's junction system is kind of annoying to me, but the R1 button is interesting. If you press it just in time for your character to hit, it becomes critical (notice the emphasis with ze intensified sound!) ~FF9's characters had their own modes of fighting. Zidane had his bandit abilities; Vivi's black magic, Garnet and Eiko's white magic and eidolons, and Quina's blue magic; Steiner's seiken and his ability to use sword magic with Vivi's magic; Amarant's throw system; and Freya's jump ability. The Trance system was even cooler, though it's the limit break version of FF9, it can occur even if you're in nay critical condition; as long as the limit bar reaches full. ~Suikoden had idea of having 6 recruits in your party is fun! 2 to 3 to almost all can combo! Didn't you know? If you have recruited all the squirrels (Muku Muku, Maku Maku, Meku Meku, etc...), they have this ultimate combo all at once. ~Persona probably has the strangest battle system (to all those who know). They can either kill enemies by summoning the so-called Personas (just like GFs) or perform the contact system (interview, interrogate, etc., depending on the character's ability) to acquire tarot cards, free cards, and long-term contacts. ~Xenogears's execution of combo hits are spectacular; from weak, to moderate, to strong ones; DEATHBLOW! (depending on your remaining AP). Plus the idea of GEAR BATTLE! ~Legend of Legaia's same with Xenogears because there're also combo hits/arts to learn; normal arts, super arts, hyper arts, MIRACLE ARTS! Got me hooked by reinventing new moves. And you can use Ra-Seru to acquire Seru powers and use them later. The black Seru playing death card (especially the Level 3 inside Juggernaut) gave me a hard time! I think there's also a technique where you can defend yourself from rapid blows, it just takes time (or does it have to do with the directional buttons?). ~Chrono Cross... now I'm convinced that Xenogears and this one are pretty much related, very so. It has the weak, moderate, and strong attacks too; can even lead to DEATHBLOWS! Elements allocated or junctioned just like magic, but they're not consumables and are regenerated every after battles. The field effect system was new, when if a certain field color occupied the whole, elements that fall under that color would deal HUGE damage! Especially with summons! ~Breath of Fire had the front and back battle system. And it gives you advantage because you get the idea to place High-DEF characters infront, while magic users and Low-DEF go in the rear. In a battle, all your characters are free to hit! I mean all! You can even switch characters that were previously not present from the first. Another advantage because if one's in critical condition, you can switch him/her for another while this one can recuperate little by little away from the enemies. Abilities are learned from some enemies too. And Ryu can transform to his dragon forms! P.S.: Aaarrgghhh... I want to add more! XD But I'm already getting lazy... so I guess, I'll add some more later. (Stupid RPGs... it takes a real lot of time to discuss them!) =D |

I liked Tales of Symphonia's. It wasn't turn-based, but still had magic and stuff ^_^ |

So far i say that the new battle system for FFXII is my favorite of all, because it is something different for the series' long history of turn based fighting. |

I like Final Fantasy X-2's battle system! You can fight when the monster is fighting you back, so you don't have to wait! |

I agree with Rukia especially on XENOGEARS...great & most of all FUN battles...still wondering why it was left out for the Xenosaga series...baffles my mind. Next FINAL FANTASY IV for introducing the Active time Bar...a staple of many RPGs nowadays. VALKYRIE PROFILE like xenogears made battles fun to participate in....highest combo was 60+ with Lenneth/Arngrim/Lezard & Brahms...can't wait for the REMAKE & the Sequel or is it the prequel...???...get to see what happened to the Kingdaom of Dipan...Lenneth's sister Silmeria is the star this time...SWEET! LEGEND OF DRAGOON...interesting concept...could have been so much more but for some reason felt a little dull at times. STAR OCEAN:2nd STORY...the battles can get fast & furious even hectic at times...what you expect from REAL TIME....think fast. |

Seems like everyone's putting ffx2... Personally, the battle system of ffx2 was fairly easy and not very challenging. I prefer star ocean's fast-paced real time or that of Magna Carta: tears of blood, where battles are more tedious but require more playing skill. and of course, xenogears and suikoden. :) |

Battle system : 1. Real-time battle system (Kindom Hearts and Musashi) Yeah, i love to kick the enemies directly. Move fast, hit fast, and dodge the enemies' attack by your own button-pressing reaction 2. Legaia, it's some unique battle. 3. Simple turn-based battle system (Wild ARMs, Skies of Arcadia, Suikoden) |

Definitely Tales of Symphonia's battle system is my favorite. Star Ocean III comes in second place.

Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time's is pretty cool, but not the best... FF Tactics Advance or Fire Emblem is probably the best, in my opinion. |

My favorite battle system in RPG is Final Fantasy X-2, because you get to attack the monster while the monster is attacking you also! |

Any Shadow Hearts game, the Destiny ring system rocked.. And I really liked the system for the first Parasite Eve and Vagrant Story..
