What does OVA or OAV mean? And OST. I'm guessing something with over sea's or only on video.  Nani?! |

Elwind is correct In terms of animations quality, tv series (ex Naruto, FMA) generally have the crappiest, ovas are next (ex Macross Zero, Macross Plus) and Movies are the best (ex Ghost in the Shell: Innocence, upcoming Naruto Movie) |

OAV is Original Animation Video and OVA is Original Video Animation, like I say, OAV and OVA is likely same. and OST is Original Soundtrack, kay?

well, now you know. welcome to the anime world, kids. the terms, TV (most websites will indicate this for tv series, so i assume everybody knows that), OVA, OAV, and OST are the must know terms when you're in this area ^__^ there's another form which you guys might be interested in. which are Drama CDs (i don't think they're going to put this in initial form, but it's always good to know just incase ^^ (and don't forget your DVDs, VCDs, and VHSs *laughs*) man, we've got tons of 3-lettered initials around here, don't we? ^^6 people might say this anime's the TV series in DVD form, OVA series in VHS form, there's so many conbinations that you can go bananas within a few seconds ^^6 TV series: released on air in television, will turn into VHSs, VCDs, and DVDs later on. OVA/OAV series: released on VHSs, VCDs, and DVDs only. better quality then the TV series. Movie: animation feature in theaters. will turn into VHSs, VCDs, and DVDs later on. best quality. Drama CD: non-animated feature, only through voice acting. (that means you can only listen and use your imagination) usually sets as the bridge between the TV and OVA series, the past, or the between section of the TV series (weiss kreuz, and yushaoh gao gai gar's a good example) OST: the original soundtrack of the anime series. |

question!! are OVA/OAV airs on TV?? y on the first place they make ova (more then 1 episode) where they can air on tv as a series (2nd season?) like hunterxhunter (i have not watched it) got tv series of 62 episodes, and have ova greed island and how about upcoming saga with the chimera ants(manga based)? will they do the ova again? or tv series? im sorry my question a bit confusing, i my self also confuse what i am asking. |

OVAs can be aired on TV after they've been relesed over a long~ period of time (around 2-3 years after released) as for hunter x hunter, i'm not sure whether they will make another OVA/TV after greed island or not, but the possibility is very low to me -___-; because the whole tv and ova seires were all based on the manga word for word with no story changes on the anime like what they did on the the old yu yu hakusho series. -___-; so we might as well follow the manga alone ne ^^6 |

@blue Yeah, it's from the word itself--"Original Animation Video" and it has only a few episodes than the tv series. Maybe they make OVAs for short sequels, or sometimes showing short animes originally done by the creator? There are some animes that are OVA, but have no tv series. So, I guess the main question has been answered??  |

maybe they make OAV's or OVA's for fun? or for classification/explanation etc etc of the anime.... OR for more money! especially if the anime is popular...

OVAs,from what i see,are usually those things that happened after or before the series.also,they contains some things that the series doesn't show.take Rurouni Kenshin for an example;the series doesn't talk much about Kenshin's past(almost nothing at all)but the OVA show us his how was his past and why he became the way he is in the series(etc etc). oh yea...i found an interesting bit of info... while OVA means original video animation and OAV means original animated video,seems like most people prefer to use OVA.reason:some people mistook OAV as Original Adult Videos..... |
