According to the FTC, the self-proclaimed "charity" organization JuniorPoliceAcademy (JPA) is a total scam. My close friend was scammed into donating $20, now they continually harass my friend with phone calls. If you have a spare moment to help me cause chaos, why not give them a call? Tell them gendou sent ya! One resident told police a phone solicitor said donations would be used “to keep kids off drugs and out of gangs.†He called the Turlock Police Department to verify the charity’s legitimacy. “We know nothing about it,†said police spokesperson Rosemary Howser. “We have nothing to do with it.†There is a Junior Police Academy, or JPA, operating in Austin, Texas, that sells youth outreach kits to police departments for $595. Turlock Police Chief Lonald Lott said, “I don’t need some bonehead telling me how to run a junior police academy.†He plans to send a cease-and-desist letter to the company. “These people are scamming our community, and I’m angry.†Two years ago the Modesto police department had similar problems with JPA. June Mellon, administrative officer for the non-profit organization, confirmed fund-raising is going on locally. “But they shouldn’t be saying ‘Turlock,’†said Mellon. “As far as I know we don’t have a program in place in Turlock.†She said she would speak to the commercial fund-raiser - West Coast Marketing - and have it stopped. The JPA, founded in 1993 by Phil LeConte in Austin, reported $2.5 million last year in donations. Most of the money - $2.3 million, or 92 percent - paid for professional solicitations. Only $332,485 was used to support JPA’s youth program. LeConte also runs two other nonprofits falling under the same umbrella. For the American Association of Police Officers, he reported to the IRS a $38,417 salary in 2002. He was also paid $58,917 for directing the Police Protective Fund the same year. In 2001 he reported a salary of $39,583 for working 20 hours a week as executive director of JPA. But the following year only his sister, Kelly LeConte, was listed on IRS Form 990. She made $53,050. Tom Dressler, spokesperson for the California Attorney General’s office, said solicitors must disclose how much of the money will go to the charity if asked. “They don’t have to make an unprompted disclosure, but they do have to answer the question.†Reports compiled over the past two years by the state Attorney General’s Office show only 8 to 15 percent of JPA donations are used to support the actual youth program. “We can’t dictate how much money has to go to charity,†said Dressler. “But we can go after people who commit fraud during the solicitation, if they lie about a law enforcement affiliation, or about where the donation will go.†The Better Business Bureau recommends charities spend at least half of donations on the programs described during the solicitation. It also suggests charities only spend a third of contributions on fund raising. Well, it's just a mistake in the URL. You two didn't spot the mistake Gendou-sama made, did ya? Anyway, the wrong URL was :- http://gendou.com/forum/www.ftc.gov/os/caselist/westcoastad/030520compwestcoastad.pdf See the "http://gendou.com/forum/" in front? Now take that out, and you'll get :- http://www.ftc.gov/os/caselist/westcoastad/030520compwestcoastad.pdf And now, it works. :)
Behold the possibilities ! The end is merely the start of a new history !
