Uhmm... At the end, when Rin gets with Asa-senpai? Well, even though Kaede did all those things to Rin when they were small, she really wanted to make up for it, right? And Rin lied so that Kaede wouldn't blame herself, right? So doesn't that imply that Rin loves Kaede? And she took care of him and EVERTHING! She was the ORGINAL token love girl, right? So WHY did Rin end up with Asa-senpai??? I love Asa-senpai and everything, but I loved Kaede more... Even though that thought sort of faded when Kaede kind of went crazy... Yeah.. I ended up adopting Primula [Rimu-Chan] as my favorite at the end... But it still doesn't make sense that He got with Asa-Senpai to me... Do you feel the same way? Or is it just me? If you answer, I would be really happy because i wouldn't have to worry if I'm crazy for wondering this!!!

Let me begin with that i'm BIG fan of the series since i played all the games as well as NAVEL for creating such a masterpiece. I'm eagerly awaiting a possible 2nd series as well as the upcomming "SOUL LINK" anime series. Yes Rin DOES love Kaede even after she did all those nasty things....he wouldn't have lied if he doesn't right?....but the relationship between the two is complex....in the end Kaede accepts the fact that Rin loves another but she still loves him no matter what. However she doesn't want her love returned "I love you but don't love me"....this quote from the series as well as the game sums it all up....she still feels guilty for all the things done in the past yet she knows that she can't always take care of Rin forever. If you want more of my thoughts i'll be glad to post what i think of the series....right now i think this post is long enough....^^ The following is something a fellow fan wrote in another forum which shed some light on Kaede...IT'S A LITTLE LONG but worth reading... PSYCHO a deranged and/or psychopathic person who is a mentally ill or unstable person. also see psychopath. A person who is unable to understand the difference between what is real and what is 'perceived' real. Emotions including saddness, pain, fear, jealously, hatred along with others are 'perceived' as real and valid, and result in behavior in direct harm of others including loved ones, and oneself. Generalization A person who is unwilling to face reality and their emotions today, will continue to suffer the consequences and pain continually until they do so. Even through the help of others they are able to supress those emotions and memories, they will remain like a benign tumor that can become malignant at anytime for any reason. In episode 19, Kaede has definitely awakened those suppressed memories and they have driven her toward irrational and psychopathic actions. This is not to say that she is a good or bad person for feeling this way. She was unable to deal with her emotions eight-years ago has choosen to accept three crutches to bury (supress) them, rather then acknowledge and release them. 1. Rin lies to her after the accident and tells her that he is responsible. She accepts this crutch to have a reason to live - to MAKE HIS LIFE A LIVING HELL. [I strongly disagree that lying is the only option. Rin express your love to her as best you can and stay with her. She's the only 'family' you have left, so make sure she knows if she gives up on life, she will leave you alone. Give her a real honest reason to live, a 'brother' who loves her and needs her. Just like in real life, there are no guarantees that she will accept reality and may continue to give up on life. But if you LIE to her, you give her an excuse to ignore reality and CREATE A 'PERCEIVED' REASON TO LIVE. If you tell her the truth and lovingly comfort her, and she still gives up, you have no reason to feel guilty. ] This means she doesn't release the pain of losing her parents and the pain continues to grow, but now she has new reason to live on - Make Rin's life a living hell because he's the one who created your pain (He lied to you but you don't know that) 2. She finds the post card lying by Rin's bed and realizes that she has been living a lie. She realizes Rin did it because he loves her, but she realizes that she doesn't deserved his love. She feel's guilty for harming Rin for all these years, and suddenly the repressed pain of losing her parents returns stronger then ever. Those tumors have grown so much that before in the hospital she might have lost a will to live, now she feels she has NO RIGHT TO BE ALIVE. Rin would be better without me she thinks and decides the best thing to do release the pain is sacrifice her own life so she cannot and will not ever be able to harm Rin again. she tries to take her own life both to release the suppressed pain and sacrifice her own life in place of Rin's to atone for the pain she has caused him (The ultimate expression of Psychotic love - self-sacrifice). Just in time, Rin saves her and she has to find another new reason to live. 3. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry....................." Kaede is lost again without a reason to live and with only guilt to be her guide, she realizes "Rin saved my life, I'll DEDICATE MY LIFE TO HIM." She accept this crutch because her guilt is real; She knows even if she spends her entire life it won't change the fact she hurt him while he was loving her. "I love you, don't love me" quote makes perfect sense because she believes she is undeserving of his love, but owes him her love. Again she buries and supresses a great deal of the pain * she felt when she lost her parents * she felt when she hurt Rin out of confusion * she felt for trying to take her own life. She never deals with her emotions and they are supressed yet again. She manages to appear normal to everyone as long as her "I'll dedicate my life to Rin" remains possible and real. If that changes and she again has nothing to live for, her internal demons will leave her no choice but to fight reality or face it. She has been psychotic (Mentally unstable YES!) from the day she lost her parents, and has refused to accept their deaths as reality even after so many years. Step back and rewatch older episodes of Shuffle! and realize that Kaede has no voice of her own, its always whatever Rin-kun wants. She has denied that she even has or deserves a life of her own. In episode 5 she falls over sick and she blames herself for it. She even wonders and asks Rin if she "is a bother, and if he would better without her!" When I watched this episode a while back, I was shocked that she could even think of herself in this fashion since Rin is * living in HER house * having HER wake him up * having HER cooking for him * having HER clean for him * having HER worry about him like a devoted loving mother If Rin hasn't showed you affection for caring that much, he isn't the same character I have pictured in my mind. Why should you feel guilty unless there is something more to the story, I wondered even then. He tries to encourage her to 'slack off a bit' and she tries it for one day (sleeps in a extra 5 mins LOL), and then decides that she has keep on as she has the past. She hasn't even learned anything from her past, and will continue to dedicate her life to him even though he has subtlely suggested that "he will accept her and love her as is." In nearly every episode of SHUFFLE! after we introduced Kaede in Episode 1 and she had health problems in episode 5, we rarely see Kaede except to COOK, CLEAN, CARE FOR, Rin. And even that is taken away from Kaede in last several episodes as situation after situation comes up and demands Rin attention and time. Rin has no choice since he cares about Primula, Sia, Nerine, and Asa, and Kaede manages to hide her situation from him. He disappears entirely in episode 17 with Kikyou and Kaede gets so worried she calls the police, definitely not Rin expected or needed her to do. He stops eating her meals because he is always spending time with the other girls on dates and such. When he's at home he begins to ignore her altogether, working on his models or play video games (PONG ANYONE!). Rin deserves some of the blame in -neglecting- poor Kaede, but he doesn't know how fragile she mentally is or I am sure he would have tried to help her; he's a very nice guy as we grown to know. Rin has plenty of reasons to be confused about his own life. He has the affections (a few of them even objectively confessed) of 5 girls! That alone is a huge nearly insurmountable burden for him as his charater is such that he doesn't want to hurt any of them, so he is trying to avoid the decision he knows he will have to eventually make. Even though he has finally made the move to go out with Asa (with a huge push from his friends), he is struggling to figure out what to do. When Kaede explodes and lays a hand on Asa, he probably wonders why he didn't see it coming and probably blames himself for not spending more time with Kaede who he may have thought had dealt with her past. But facts are facts, Rin cannot save Kaede unless Kaede wants to be saved. It is Kaede who must accept her past, and look for her own future. It is Kaede who must love herself, as her mother, Rin, and friends loved her. Parallels between Takayuki from KGnE and Kaede are very easily drawn because neither character accepts loss and moves on with their lives. Instead the pain of the loss drags on and on in one form or another. Other people (Mitsuki sacrifices herself for Takayuki to give him a reason to live; Rin lies to Kaede and then she lies to herself to give her reasons to live) give these characters reasons to supress those feelings and appear somewhat normal for awhile, but those reasons are only temporary fixes. Eventually everyone has to face their emotions both real and 'perceived' ones, or they will be consumed by them. So the jist of it is that Rin wanted Kaede to live for herself & not have to devote her life to another..... |

I see. Haha. Gee. I didn't know i would get a reply THIS long. But don't worry, I enjoyed it! I had no idea that other people thought like i did!!! Hehe. I was REALLY angry at Rin when he neglected poor Kaede whenever he was home. And frankly, he ignored Primula's concerned warnings about Kaede as well. And at the end, Kaede kind of dedicates herself to Primula, right? She takes complete care of her now... so doesn't that me she's back to square 1? [And i love Rimu-chan anyway! haha.] And also, what was WITH the kiss between Kaede and Sia at the end? I didn't understand! It was an accident, but was i supposed to mean something for it to be important enought o be put at the end??? Thank you for you reply!

You wanna jump into the tv and give her a BIG hug....(sigh) "She takes complete care of her now... so doesn't that me she's back to square 1?" Now that you mention it...yeah?...i never thought about it that way....but at least she isn't doing it out of regret this time it's all LOVE.I agree with ya...Rimu-chan looks even cuter than before...especially in the Neko waitress/maid outfit....RAWR ^^ As for the kiss with Sia....well i have to watch it a "few" times to get an opinion on it...(hehehehe)....if you know what i mean.....^^ |

NAVEL the creators of Shuffle! probably would like to finish their next anime project called "SOUL LINK" (another very good game) before planning another Shuffle! series.....this is only an assumption so don't hold me to it. It would be great if it would happen SOONER than later. |
