Search for the "enamdict" on the internet. It is a free dictionnary (text file) which contains a few hundred thousands of japanese names and surnames...

You will need a program that can read the EUC format if you want to see the japanese caracters, but using windows notepad, you can still see the names written in our alphabet.

Fighting games are an excellent source of cool Japanese names, like Yamazaki, Setsuna, Ryoko, Nakaruru, Yagami, Kusagani, the list goes on.

Oh, since this thread is about you naming characters I'll show you a technique I used when I named foreign characters back in school when I was a semi-accomplished writer- Use names that sound like words you list that describes the character in your language, for example, if a character murders someone, words like "murder and kill" first come to mind, so Japanese names like "Mukuru and Kyu" set the mood. It sounds unimportant, but it's important to set the mood for the readers in your language when they hear or read the name. Also, for dramatic effect, you could go with Japanese name that sounds like a completley innappropriate English word to describe them, or even use words that desribe something secretive about the character. It's about being subliminal more than anything, and you don't want to make it too obvious. I hope this helps you, and good luck!
