This is great news! It's almost guarenteed to win too, since there were practically no other good animated movies this year...seriously, name one other than Howl's Moving Castle. If FF7:Advent Children had shown in theaters, it might have been nominated too...oh well...

It's nice to see that Disney didn't get an Oscar nod this year. (Yes they distributed the english version of Howl's Moving Castle but Ghibli animated it) Two years ago Brother Bear, which is widely considered the worst Disney animated film since the early 80's, got an nomination over GITS 2 and Cowboy Bebop the movie Last year we all knew that Shrek 2 or The Incredibles would win as we know the Oscar committe is a sucker for a CGI animated film. Atleast they proved me wrong this year, 2 claymation and 1 traditonal 2d animated films got the nod and Disney's chicken little was left in the cold.

the other one was "The Corpse's Bride", the last one just totally slipped out of my mind right after it was nominated.

i do not think FF7 is on par with Miazaki.
FF7 is a pop-culture craze.
Miazaki has been making revolutionary films for years, each better than the last.

i'll have to go with Gendou on this. FF7 is pretty and i agree (especially the technology on the hair) but the story was too confusing for a person like me who didn't play or watch the Final Fantasy series before. if they want to get into the Oscars, they need to convince the audience on a good storyline, along with a series of original, unique, and unforgetable characters.

There's just no way that it could lose. The competition sucks. REALLY.

I looked at poll on who thought which movie would win the oscar for animated feature.

it was
37% for Wallace and Grummit
54% for Cropse Bride
9% for Howls moving castle

Ignorant fools who didn't even watch it.
