What do you think? ^_^ lookie here!
|
Hello everyone at Gendou.com ^_^ recently, Ive been into a strange hobby... well I like to color B+W manga pages in photoshop, and I was just hoping that I could show some of what Ive done here, and maybe get some feedback ^_^ I always hoped this wouldnt violate any rules/copyrights.. I give full credit to the original artists, I just like to color em! Many are my own scans. I just wanted to see if anyone had suggestions on how to make them look cooler or anything, I'd appreciate criticism :D (good or bad, but be nice @_@ lol) http://img462.imageshack.us/img462/6869/aweyukicry9kt.jpg http://img462.imageshack.us/img462/8397/donteatme7gx.jpg http://img462.imageshack.us/img462/2540/fuumabloodycolor4kr.jpg http://img462.imageshack.us/img462/4543/ryuichi5bn.jpg http://img477.imageshack.us/img477/593/ryuichicallcolor0ji.jpg http://img462.imageshack.us/img462/285/ryuichicool4sy.jpg http://img462.imageshack.us/img462/5373/ryuichismile3km.jpg http://img477.imageshack.us/img477/2712/ryuichisakuma21uj.jpg http://img462.imageshack.us/img462/5121/wink24ni.jpg http://img477.imageshack.us/img477/5088/subaruflower7db.jpg http://img462.imageshack.us/img462/1650/yukiautograph120qr.jpg D: Sorry there are so many!! You dont have to look at them all v.v Also, I've never talked to anyone eles who does this, so if anyone has ever done this, or wants to try, you can post what you did here ^_^ if you want to know how: Just find a B+W manga pic, open it in photoshop or another paint program. Add a new layer over the top of the original. change the opacity of the layer to 50% and color on the layer ^_^. Thanks! |

I may be wrong, but it looks like you colour the same way I do, by making layers and changing the opacity, and then colour it on top. Not bad. I tried doing one but didn't have the patience to finish it. |

Splendid and it gave me an idea. I draw with pencil, paint and teach art on Weds. Let have some fun. Try these pencil sketches and repost them. When your done I'll post the ones I have and you can compare. One is on a transparent back ground. Take your time, there is no hurry. I shall have to do two of them. Does anyone else want to join in? We use clickable thumbnails here. *giggles* |
Re: What do you think? ^_^ lookie here!

@ Euphony: Yep ^_^ Thats what I do. The used to take me a long time to do, and I never wanted to finish them, but Its pretty easy now. @ lady_rin: Ok I'll work on one right now ^_^ heh I tried to figure out what the code was to get the thumbnails, but I couldnt figure it out @_@... (what is it btw? ^_^;;) |
Re: What do you think? ^_^ lookie here!

Thumbnails: Go to photobucket and select an image. Then on the bottom which says "please select an action," choose Generate HTML & IMG code. Copy everything under HTML clickable thumbnails for Ebay, Livejournal, MySpace, etc. - recommended and paste it here; you're ready to go! However, if you're not using photobucket... Use this: <center><a href="url of pic" target="blank"><img src="copy of url" height="120" width="160"></a></center> Maya-nee wa ore ga mamoru! "To be forgotten, is worse than death." |

I didn't have a chance to work on them since Ranger and I were out most of the day. I am now home and after checking a few posts I'll do one of them and post it. How long did it take for you to do that and how long have youi been coluoring like this? |
Re: What do you think? ^_^ lookie here!

hmmm well to do them both took about an hour.... I think Ive been doing this for about 6 months hehe ^_^; |

I think coloring manga is a great thing. I would love to see a revolution where all manga artists start going to people like you to get their manga's colorized. |

I finally had a chance to do 2 of them. The third one I did a long time ago only you're going to have to ask to see it as it has a nude Tinkerbell on it and it should be approved by a mod. On the left plain flat colours no textures. Instead of blue piping on her dress she is now wearing a slip under it, same part of the picture, just a different was of looking at it. There is some pixelation since I didn't take the time to clean it up, I may go back and do that when I have some time. The difference on the right was to intensify the colours and contrast and the use of a texture. I guess about 6-7 hours for both of them. Â Â So we now have a colouring book. Let's see yor work, starting a manga scan or a grayscale image. |

Kaimira- I saw the work U post on 11:50:51 pm 02/09/06... I look at the first two pic.. Maybe me gave some advice to u... The pic that u post needs alot of shading to make it look better... Maybe U can add some shading and background to make it look more nicer... Well you may also seek some advice from others too... |

All this awesome coloring skill makes me want to try one too, but I do have a question or two before I go butchering my manga scan. Just painting on a transparent layer I can't figure out how you would easily do the edges between colors without some sort of fill or edge detection tool. Also, how do you end up comming up with your pallete? Just trial and error, personal choice, etc? |

If you want a nice clean edge between colors use a mask then fill to the mask. however I prefer to feather between colours as it give a more realistic appearance. Look at the girl in the blue top and you;ll see what I mean. I'm not sure what you mean by how I came up with my pallet. If you like and I have some time I shall try to make something else and show you how it was done. |

What I meant about the pallet was, is there any method to picking colors other than just picking some random blue for one part or another? |
Re: What do you think? ^_^ lookie here!

@ pso player: Thank you ^^ well I just kinda of pick the color that first comes to my mind when i saw the pic in B+W. But I suppose I dont really have a method.. hmm. It'd be awesome to see others work! Well actually I did pick up one 'method' for coloring skin. Instead of picking a pinkish or yellow-toned skin color, I actually start from the grey section then slowy move towards orange and white. Some colors I think are good are: D9CCB0-toned instead of FFEFB6-toned. (enter those colors in the pallete) @ Kei: When you open a pic, choose "layer" at the top and select "new layer" then in your "layer/path/channel" box there should be an opacity thing. You can change it Whatever you want depending on how dark you want the colors to be. I always use 50%. Then you just choose a brush/color and start the work ^_^ I actually dont use the bucket or anything, and for the very very tiny spots like the tips of hair, I actually just zoom in to about 600% and get them with the smallest brush lol. That's probably why it could take me 2 hours to do one pic... but I do work fast XD. Thanks btw ^_^ Gravitation is really fun to color. Thanks for commenting on this guys! lol |

I never really knew how it was done before, but that's really simple. Now I really want to try. Thanks for speaking out and showing your work, it's awesome! |
