Ok, this is an old-fashion question, since now-a-days, most Japanese Brides wears western Wedding Dress, but in a traditional wedding, what colour does a Japanese Bride wear? I thought something as a Shiromuku, a white dress, but sometimes you see wedding pictures where the bride wears a red Uchikake and also a black one.

Like this:

Can someone explain?

the best advice I can give(and don't completely take my word for it, as I am still learning too :P) I believe that the pure white kimono(shown below) is to represent the bride's "purity" and I imagine that one who has been married before will probably not wear the pure white kimono because she has been previously married therefore not really as "pure". thus the reason there are many pics of brides in other colors. And they do come in an array of different colors http://images.google.com/images?q=uchikake&hl=en&btnG=Search+Images I hope this has helped a little if not you can register for immortalgeisha.com's forum and ask them. they should be able to help more.

Actually, the color of the kimono represents something else. Besides (perhaps) having obvious connotations with purity the color of the kimono also varies with the religion. Why don't u go check out Wikipedia for kimono?

Traditionally, a pure white kimono is worn by the bride in Shinto wedding ceremonies.

These days, tradition is left by the wayside and the bride chooses whatever she wants. A modern, contemporary Japanese wedding often has several ceremonies in different clothes. Some people go through 5, 6 or more clothing changes for their wedding. My cousin's Western Wedding Dress, when she got married, some 15 years ago in Japan, was black and white and she didn't have a Shinto ceremony at all.
