i'd say, "lost in translation". sometimes you just can't get the accurate message from the producer/author after the original version's being translated.

It is bad to me... |
Re: Anime dubbing is bad.

I think sometimes it's bad but sometimes it's okay. But I think the dubs version that was air on the tv channel are meant for the small kids entertainment because not every kids can read the subs that apperead and disapperead so fast. I don't really watch the anime in tv channel because I've watch most of them in CD but I don't really think it's so bad. Well, as long as they translated it correctly, I'll do my best to ignore the weird feeling inside of me. What I can't really stand is when they changed the translation until it become totally different meaning from the original one. Sum it up, I don't think dubs are totally bad. Only the dubbers need a lot of practice expecially for the Malay dubs and the translation should be correct. That's the most important thing. Still, the original Japanese voice are the best! p/s: I think the Cantonese and English dubs are okay because they can bring up the mood and personality of the anime characters almost as good as the original one.

Most of the Animes that reach US becomes Americanized- The effect, poor dubbing. I don't know why. The worst that I have heard is Ryu's (Shaman King) voice... I turned me upside down... |

anyone ever watched Orphen dubbed? If it wasn't the good anime that it is, i would've broken the TV. Same with One Piece...it's a disgrace. Ppl are always going on about how crappy it is compared to the manga but undubbed, it's better(that's what i think anyway) ![]() |

so true...so true... >.<,,, but i do agree that all dubbing is NOT bad, there are some genuinely well dubbed anime's out there, as have been mentioned, and the editing process, while annoying, is nessessary (sorry for the spelling...) other wise if some one is ofended the anime could be banned or taken off the air or what ever...but they shouldn't change stupid things...>.<,,, there ARE a few companies out there who have gotten better at it though...just to be fair to them, they ARE improving at a slow rate.

4Kids Entertainment is probably the worst dubbing company out of all of them. They've butchered some of the best anime out there for(what do you know?) kids. It's bad enough that they changed names and dialogue, but they got crappy voice actors. They've killed Tokyo Mew Mew, One Piece, Shaman King, and so many others.

Dubbing is the worst. All of/most of the anime dubbing i heard...the voices feel out of character...i also feel as though its out of body 2. The voices dont even match their personality or seem real. Does anyone else feel as if the dubbed voices seem like they lack real emotion or things along that line? (ive only heard them in english..so...no offense to other languages) |
Re: Anime dubbing is bad.

agreed. dubbing are very, very lousy. |
Re: Anime dubbing is bad.

i agree that some of the dubbed voices are really lack of expressions. i've watched anime dubbed in cantonese (like Ranma 1/2 etc) before, i realised some characters (especially male ones) spoke as though they're lecturers who are explaining complicated formulas and their derivations to students.. i.e. they sounded very stiff. is it because hong-kongers speak like that in normal life? and i've also found something interesting. for the original version of Doraemon, doraemon sounds like a middle-aged lady with sore throat. whereas for the cantonese version, he has a male's voice. and for the malay version, he sounds like a high-pitched mickey mouse. all 3 types of voices bring out different atmosphere for doraemon.

The first proper anime I watched was Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' On Heaven's Door. Dubbed. My first thoughts (on Spike) were: God, this guy sounds stiff. What sort of an actor is he? You're just trying to slide those lines out of your mouth in one go to sound "cool" but you lose the clarity that putting a distinct emphasis on every word gives you, so you just end up sounding stupid... Surprisingly, after watching the rest of the film I had warmed to the VA. Now I have the DVD I've tried to watch in Japanese... and the seiyuu don't fit their characters to me! It's like trying to watch FMP in English... they just don't sound half as 'right', even when they're passable, like Shini'chiro Miki's Kurz Weber vs. Vic Mignogna's Kurtz Weber. His voice is okay... a little high pitched, making Kurz sound younger than Shini'chiro Miki's Kurz, which makes him sound much less plausible as a playboy character. The acting is absolutely fine. I have no problem with it at all. A little too... slurred? on certain lines, but that is a stylistic preference. The guy's really good. I just don't think he fits as beautifuly as Shini'chiro Miki. FMP specific now... in the English-language version, by ADV, the characters are pronouncing his name with a T in the middle, aren't they? The character given is 'tsu'... that's more of a su, or a zu when you come to pronounce it. I guess Kurtz seemed like a more plausible German name, but then look at poor Tessa-tan! Come on. Sure it's an ambiguous spelling, but Teletha vs. Telesa vs. Theresa vs. Teretha... surely it should be obvious which name is more Italian? Theresa Testarossa, people! So I wish they had been less haphazard when picking natural pronounciations, but that is a very small complaint compared to the stack I could lay at the door of 4Kids. The only other dub I've heard that I could pretty much swap with the sub is Trigun. There is no higher praise from me- as a rule I hate dubs, and it takes a lot to get me to make an exception. *~Pips~* |

...Sometimes, I don't mind dubs. Subs are too annoying to get for me and I'm stuck with dubs anyway. Gundam series usually are great dubs. Look where Scott McNeil is today just from doing the part of Duo. Seed at least has a better Kira, though I despise Seed. Only thing that made the dub voice better was cuz the Jap VA did horse cries and it was hard to adjust when he had a badass role of Kazuma beforehand. G Gundam had a great Domon who was as good, if not better, than the Jap VA. Then, we move onto dubs like Duel Masters. VAs aren't so good, but it doesn't matter too much. Also, we all have gripes about Naruto dub voices. Lastly, anything dubbed by 4Kids fails at life... In short, not all dubs are bad... |

I don't agree that dubbing is bad well, not for our language. hey I’ve watch Naruto in Japanese, English, and Tagalog and I really prepare our native dubbing... much so in many anime that's been shown here. Sorry, people... blame your native dubbers… ![]() “I am the wisest man alive, for I know one thing, and that is that I know nothing.†|

well, not all anime dubbing is bad. Alot of it was ok. They stayed with the original look, script, etc. But some just should've to try to be close enough to the look, script, etc.
