I don't know if any one agrees. It pisses me off kids think twenty minutes and thirty bucks in a bloody Hot Topic makes them punk. It's an insult to people like mewho were raised on The Clash and The Dead Kennedys. Damn kids need to know their history.

I'll agree with you there. Although I'm not really in on the punk scene, one more thing I'm hating about Hot Topic is the amount of Naruto clothing they're selling. Pisses me off when kids think 20 min and $30 in a Hot Topic makes them the ultimate Naruto fan/anime otaku. Sorry I ripped that sentence off. D: |

"someone oviously listens to MC Lars" hey, can't fault the geezer if he's right y'know. I always thought that way, he just made a song about it and I say more power to him. So, are you for or against Hot Topic Menos?

See I knew you did haha. I don't really care either way man I usually just go to the bookstore when I'm at the mall nowadays. If there's no hot chicks working there when I pass by I leave. |

lol i don't hate hot topic, but it doesnt make you punk either...its not my place of choice to shop, since their cloths have a habit of not lasting very long...personally i go for goth if i have to go at all and it runs in the family, so i either shop for hours/days/months for the right components from all over the damn place, or i get it pro made just for me :3, and damn expensive the pro can be. but i dont really dress up often, its mostly just plain jeans and shirt for me...XD

Hot Topic sells whatever is currently "popular", but in black - OH NOES THAT IS CERTAINLY PUNK NOW. Actually, the Hot Topic company is owned by the Gap. Go figure. I admit to liking [and donning] a lot of the wearables, but it's really just unconcentional conventionalism - same level of conformity, but a slightly different standard. I do, however, LOVE the selection of Labyrinth merchandise, as David Bowie makes me all sorts of happy. |

But you accept that there is a level of conformity there. I mean the store is trying to sell punk stuff but punk was a movement that disdained conformity. Although I accept conformmity exists in all groups, punks included, Hot Topic is mass producing an anti-authority persona to these kids and bypassing the anti-corporate image that started the punk movement back in the 70's. (Woah, long rant, soory.)

Re: Hot Topic Isn't Punk Rock.

If you were a real punk, you wouldn't be shopping at hot topic. Those who claim to be "punk" wouldn't support a company that would tell them what punk is. As for Hot Topic being part of GAP, if it's true, then there's your answer. And since was anime considered to be punk? |

Y'know, recently I'm wondering if punk and anime don't go together. I mean I think so but.... Hot Topic still sells artificial identies to kids with too much money and too little sense.

I understand why THE DOCTOR would be irritated with these kids claiming to be something they know nothing about. For instance, recently more and more kids have been wearing Che Guevara T-shirts. I wouldn't mind so much if they knew what he stood for, but this kids are completely oblivious to who he is and what he stands for. For kids to wear his image as a fashion statement instead of actual praise for his sacrafice is just doing the opposite. Besides, Che Guevara isagainst capitalism. For his face to be on a mass product goes against his believes. |
