Malaysia should show more Anime.
Link | by Ming-Chan on 2006-02-17 01:42:56
Hi there!! Ming-Chan's here again. I'm so grateful my first thread got replys, so here's my second!! In Malaysia, all the anime shown are extremely boring!! (I'm refering to all those cute anime meant for the kiddies) There are only a few good ones. Also, the "Animax" channel (for those of you who don't know, "Animax" was "supposed" to show 24-hour anime. However, it only shows anime for 4 hours. Even worse, sometimes, they cut that 4 hours into 2!! They seem to enjoy showing an anime for a while, then when it gets to juicy bits, they cut that anime off!! What a rip-off!!) is showing less and less anime and more reality shows...(those jerks)Well anyway... Do you think that Malaysia should show more Anime? As usual, good or bad views are readily accepted!! (And if you happen to be working in a TV station in Malaysia, Please pay attention to this thread!!)

Haihzz.. ur rite ming chan.. Animax is showing on channel 15 on Astro in m'sia... Its not jus the time dat is bad.. The screen is too small and there are no subtitles!! Wat is dat man?!! I mean there should be subtitles for all anime which are not dubbed!! Anyway, Dubbed Anime is Bad, I prefer subbed!! Here is a question for all members : WHICH DO U LIKE BEST, SUBBED OR DUBBED ANIME??!

I HATE DUBBED ANIME!!

i have no feelings towards subbed or dubbed ones, so i'll pass the question. =p

why doesn't malaysia show more anime? hmm, i don't know. but i can provide you a few possible explanations:

- many anime are licensed, and you're not supposed to show them if you hadn't purchased copyright from the original production company. maybe Animax didn't bother to do so, that's why they're short of anime?

- somehow, certain contents in the anime were considered "unacceptable" by the government, so they decided to ban those anime? come on, the government even restricted kung fu hustle to people above 18, isn't it possible for many anime to be restricted as well?

I for one dont think that its 100% true that Malaysia isnt showing more anime but i think its increasing. Those days we can only see afew but now i see that even ntv7 is showing quite a few on the weekends in dubbed of course. As for shiroyuu 2nd theory, well i for 1 think that the Malaysian government still thinks anime = cartoons so some of those unacceptable things may get through although there r filters. Taking the example of VCDs, the anime elfen lied, writen in the front cover is 'U' for general viewing! For those who dont know, Elfen Lied is very ecchi and its filleed with bloody violence.
NOTE: The contents here are merely my view and have no hiddent meanings. I m juz expressing my oppinions and not criticising anyone.

1st: i agree wth bernz that malaysia is showing more anime nowadays as compared to when we were small..

2nd:animax is mainly for singapore viewers,if i'm not wrong.it's not really a channel for msian views.n yeah,it's so small n i hate dubbs as well.

3rd: the government certainly will filter any animes and i guess we cannot avoid that.well, personally i think that it's good that the tvs are just showing all the 'childish' anime; aiming for kids as i think that young children nowadays pick up bad habits too fast.if the tvs are going to show more matured animes on tv, i can see some parents getting all fussy abt it. basically i jz don't think that our little ones can watch those type of animes and actually think wiser and let their mind grow in a clever way.besides the anime would most likely be dubbed, so they would only be watching it for pure fun n not learning anything from it.

so i think i'm okay wth the quantity of anime on our screen today.for us,the young adults n adults,we are matured enough (i hope) to actually enjoy anime n being open about it.heck,i'm jz worry abt kids nowadays!!T_T

Yes! Malaysia is showing too little anime. Besides that, all the anime that they show is in Malay (okay, maybe not or, but most of them).

Those that are showing in English is the Singapore channel and it's really late at night which i cannot watch since i have to go to school the next day. If not, they are showing it on weekends which i'll not be at home.

Man...how i wish that Malaysia can show more anime.

OOOO!!malaysians here!
me too~~~hey~~~*shake hands wif everybody*
yeah= =+
our anime that is shown in tv is quite lame cz the CV is arh= =
i really dont know how to describe them.....
and besides, the quality of the cartoon is not so good..
i mean , mayb's the station's problems or wateva...but it's spoiling my mood to watch them in TV.
so,i prefer buying VCDs,Dvds or download them

Oh, they show anime. Quite a few actually. I was surprised to see Gundam Seed on the local channel. Except... its dubbed in MALAY! And then there's the censoring... they censored part of the opening of Gundam Seed Destiny because of the partial nudity in one scene... Reminds me of the time they censored the opening of Power Rangers just because of the word 'morphing' which sounds like the drug 'morphine'. I even remember reading about that issue in the newspapers. There was a huge uproar over a word which sounds like a name of a drug in Power Rangers... I can't express how ridiculous I think that is....

haih...malay dubbed is awfull...their tone are flat..just like reading from the script...and i can barely hear what they say...
and about the censoring..it's still okay if they censor some part..movies are like that too, but sometimes i really get frustrated when they totally cut the opening and ending!arghhh!!...i wanted to see it so much and they...they...........aih...sien...
why don't they show more anime...and why don't they show subbed anime instead of dubbed ones...the cantonise and mandrine version aren't good either...
i used to buy cd,but some they cut the ending just to save space,so i started buying dvd...but it's really dissapointing to see how much mistakes they make...some they have the english subtitle straightly translated from the mandrine subtitles in there(normally they come with 2 subtitles)..really terrible....
and i liked chibi maruko chan, why they stopped airing it??grr...
not just anime, j-drama are really getting less nowadays...all going for korean drama.... wuwuwu~~~ T.T

People thanks for the support. Any more opinions are immediately welcome. (I didn't know that They cut out the first episode of Power Rangers because of the word morphine. Thanks for the info.) Oh yes, to that person who wrote that an OTAKU fan shouldn't be bothered about this, I think they SHOULD be bothered about both quantity AND quality.

thanks for your information, Bernz! i'm not really sure what kind of content does malaysia government allow (i'm thinking these people have funny brains), but.. man, i didn't think Elfen Lied would be categorised as "U". even its opening and ending scenes were completely.. full of nudity.

well, as you might know, such anime might be labelled to be suitable for all ages, but what's the possibility of them actually showing on TV?

I hate dubbed anime especially into Malay !!! I am totally agree with Yaiba !!! It just awful if you compared it to the orginal one( in Japanese) Furthermore, I think Malaysia is short of voice actors. You can hear the same voice from two different anime characters in an anime sometimes.
But now they are showing more and more anime. I just hope that they will not dubbed the anime.

Hey Guys, I hope there will be an all anime song channel on the radio.. It will be cool right? I think M'sia's radio channels are low in quality.. They Keep repeating the same songs!! and there are no anime songs at all!! DUBBED anime SOCKS to da MAX!! They even dub those anime dat are in english into Malay!! Dats Overkill! Its like English or Japanese isn't important to M'sians!! I HATE ANIME SHOWED ON TV2, TV3, NTV 7 AND 8TV!! ALL DUBBED IN EIHER MALAY OR CHINESE!! I'm very disappointed in those narrow minded MALAYS who thinks Malay is Everything!! It makes me sick!! (i'm not trying to be racist) Soree if i had offended any1..
