Whats up with this moon of ours?
Link | by Jomunga on 2006-03-15 02:28:39
It seems that every night there is a full moon I get all exited and full of energy.

Is this the moons gravitational pull's fault. Why am I hyper on full moons? Not just full moons but during night in general I feel like I have more energy. How does this moon effect us and what is the science behind it all?

Why are the coyotes so loud right now too?

This is a myth which has been scientifically confirmed to be untrue.
Due to its elliptical orbit, the pull of the moon effects the oceans, causing the tides.
However, this gravitational field is so weak that we feel no different during high and low tide.
There is no significant gravitational difference (i.e. difference in distance) between a full an new (hidden) moon.
This is because the phases of the moon are a result of sunlight covering all, part, or none of the surface of the moon (called the "light side of the moon") which always faces the earth.

There are two reasons that I can see might explain the effect psychologically:
1. The moon is a symbol of the night, exciting to night people.
2. The myth of the moon effecting people's mood has a placebo effect.

Coyotes are nocturnal animals, so they are up at night, doing their thing, which is howling and such.

I think you are hyper of full moon, because there is more light. I mean, you have more energy when it's day, right?

Also, when the moon is big (closer to Earth), it catches our sight. Perhaps because of gravity. And the contrast between the moonlight and night. And when the moon draws your attention, you will be concentrated to look at the moon. When you are concentrated, you get more energy and get less tired. That's what you describe as 'hyper', I think.

Well since it is probaly the sight of the moon that causes it; I decided to change my wallpaper to the one with Sesshomaru and a big full moon behind him. I wonder if it will have the same efect if I look at the moon on my computer compared to the one outside. The moon is still pretty big right now, and I am still quite hyper.

Now I don't know if it is the moon or Sesshomaru that makes me hyper.

*turns into Sesshomaru fangirl.

He's so bishie

wouldn't it be cool if one day, there's like a cloudy night, and the moon would shine like dark blue or pink like in the 'X' movie. that would be hott!!

I know that here in LA the moon shines yellow due to polution. I think the moon can change colors depending on the atmosphere.

What colors can it change too? I don't know.

you know the old saying of "once in a blue moon." How often does that happen?

Gee well your behaviour and sudden excitation could be from many things, maybe you feel more active during the night, or by looking at the full moon causes you to feel excited, or you could just be imagining things. Before you go on any further, most of the questions you are asking are common sense, and there has been a thorough study of this psychology, explaining more than what you bargained for, and it might not be the moon's fault at all.

It isnt magic, and maybe for you, the big round circle you see up in the sky makes you feel energetic because maybe something you have experienced made you feel excited at night, like staying up during a festival, and therefore whenever you see the moon you will get excited.

As for the color of the moon, it depends on those nasty chemicals that are in the atmosphere, different chemicals form a different spectrum of colors. Naturally, the moon is usually seen yellow in the night sky, no matter where you are, and may show up as either white, yellow, blue, or even red, and a combination of those colors. A red moon is uncommon, it happens when there is a lunar eclipse.

As for the saying "once in a blue moon" to state that whatever you were talking about wont happen over a short period of time, and a blue moon comes by every 1-2 years and is another way of calling something that rarely happens "once in a blue moon", for example, people say once a week, once a year, or once in a blue moon.

If you find this full moon thing to be a problem, i suggest to stop watching dragon ball/Dbz/Dbgt when goku still had his tail, and turning into a Oozaru. Btw this last part was just a joke.

Those who think they know everything annoy those who actually do.

Wow, so the full moon's effects have been disproved...
So when hospitals and places like that claim their patients are crazier than normal is it reasonable to guess that they've heard about the rumor and thus believe?
What about those who've never heard about it...^^Maybe people get more energy bc it's bright like the sun but people can look straight at it??

You've been watching too much Dragonball.
The moon doesn't do to much for moods, but there is a small effect.
A small effect, not enough to make you feel hyper.

Maybe you are a werewolf! Don't bite me! Joke... Maybe because you love full moons, you can see that cool thing, so round, so nice, bright (not so bright), and it is the one dominant in the night sky.

Silly answer eh?

maybe your hyper because you did something or the moon reminds you of something other than that it can't really be the moon that's causing your brain to register excitement (it's like I'm standing next to a mountain there is no way it could excite me unless I think of something exciting)
well in any case that's my best assumption
