I definitely like yukata. At least it's easier to wear a yukata than wearing kimono. It's really good looking too in real :D

Yukata is easier to wear and has less accessories, lighter and cheaper than kimono. It is harder to put on a kimono usually if you're not familiar with; you'll need someone to help you out. Tsumari...the differences are: Price, looks and weight. I guess? mi-chan yori~

Another difference between yukatas and kimonos is that yukatas are more usually worn in the summer because they are made of light cotton, so it is much easier to breathe in them and they don't cook you. The materials used to make a kimono are handmade/stitched and [usually] have a more intricate detail than those of a yukata's. The material is very heavy and is worn ontop of several layers, so these are usually worn during winter as it can get veeery hot inside it all. |

Two of my best friends went back to Japan a while ago, and brought back pictures of them wearing a Yukata for some festival they went to. They even gave my cousin one to wear and she looked really nice in it. ^_~` They really do look nice though. Not exactly, but in a way, they remind you of wedding dresses... almost.. in a way. o^_^o ------- |

It's a great style that represents their culture. So, they're representin'! XD And of course boys don't mind seeing 'em in it. They look really good in it, like a girl would look in a wedding dress... » [rei] I said a bunch of stuff in that line that stated "almost" and whatnot. I didn't actually mean they were wedding dress. ;P But girls who wear 'em look nice, as if it was them wearing a wedding dress at their wedding or something. Think of it like that, but don't get confused. ------- |

Kimono = generic term for Japanese traditional clothing. Can refer to a specific type of layered dress/robes for both men and women. More formal that yukata by far. in general, when people talk about kimono they are talking about clothing that has 3 or more layers in various colors. The 2 under layers are usually cotton (or wool if it's cold) and the outer layer is heavy, embroidered silk (or wool if it's cold). There is also a multi-layered obi (belts) involved with an elaborate knot in the back to keep it all together. A good kimono set can cost over $2000 (US dollars) to start and be much higher priced. Many are family heirlooms. Yukata = originally bath robe (for both men and women)... Now, it's usually a light cotton or silk or polyester one layer robe in festive colors and patterns usually worn by girls/females only during festivals (matsuri) Quite informal. Men's yukatas are usually still bathrobes and only worn at home or at bathhouses (and walking to and from the public baths). Try this site for more info and pics http://www.japanesekimono.com/ |
