Physic Unit

Here's a siple question. I wanted to know the arrangement of unit in physic. For example, the unit for mass kg, times energy joule and divided by time second. then, which of the arrangement goes first? is it the alphebetical order? or the divided value goes first?

Personally, i'd say it doesn't really matter... Even if in this case, i'd definitely go for "kg/J.s", and would indeed probably frown my eyes if i saw "kg/s.J", because it just feels wrong. So yes, maybe alphabetically, but quite frankly, i don't think there's any real rule for it. I think it relies mostly on a sense of aesthetics and "elegance", which is something you get from working with Physics a lot, rather then given by some rule.

But again, there's nothing wrong per sé with "kg/s.J".

Usually the order of units is followed by the arrangement of how the calculation is done in the formula.

i think it is kg.J/s

and usually divided values is always the last one and the timed values is first... it will make confusion when reading it, if it is reversed... except if you use the power of minus one... well but it is still hard to read...

so stick with times first and all divided value last (all units with positive powers comes first and with negative comes last)

and another thing is that commonly people use kg comes first followed by metres and seconds

for example:

kg.m.s
J.K/kgms

in the name of truth and honor, i shall have my vengeance upon you

I believe it doesn't matter unless your teacher is super anal about these things.
I would put that unit you mentioned as kgJ/s cause normally I see the mass placed first. Besides I think it's weird to say Joules kilograms over seconds rather than kilograms joules over seconds.

Woops, yeah, you're right, i misread the original post! Shame on me...

Your question is (kg x J)/s then it answer should become this;

kg.J/s

kg.J/s is the way they write it in my college engineering courses, so I'd assume that's the correct way.
(Technically couldn't this also be called a kilogram Watt? I find that idea somewhat amusing.)

kg(J)/s

1 joule = 1 newton metre = 1 watt per second

You know...you go with the order that you multiply by or diveded by.....

I think you should follow the 'BODMAS' rule.Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

B → Bracket first.(solve equations in bracket first)
O → Otherwise if no brackets.
D → Division first
M → Multiplication next
A → Addition next.
S → Subtraction.

it would be easier if you include all the units of the values in your equation. the arrangement of the units will come as you arrive at your final answer.
